Hi,
I have a large old magnolia tree (the variety with white-pink flowers) that I made cuttings from today hoping that they will root. This tree has beautiful flowers and I know leaf reduction can be easily achieved with this species. The cuttings I took were probably between 1-2 year's growth. I made the cuts where a lot of small dormant buds lay in hopes that hormones meant to supply the buds growth can be directed to new roots. I made clean cuts with a knife and coated the ends in rooting hormone. I sprayed the leaves with a dilute solution of fungicide as a precaution and put them in the shade in a pot with perlite and spagnum moss.
I don't know when its the best time of year to do cuttings, I simply did them because I had time. That said, do I still have a chance of the cuttings taking root or is it unlikely?
Thanks,
Julian
