I'm new to this forum and to Bonsai...I've purchased a Brazilian Rain Tree and a Vera wood tree. I'd like to see if any one has suggestions or how tos they can point me to. The trees are from a nursery and are not tiny but they are still somewhat young.specific examples of what I'm lookin for is trunk thickening and my major concern is the styling of the tree if it is allowed to grow for a while can I still train it to become bonsai. My fear is that if I allow it to grow too much it will no longer look like or be considered bonsai?

Regarding your main concern: Allowing a tree to grow out to thicken a trunk is common practice in bonsai. It will certainly not look like bonsai when it's growing out, but that's just one step in the process of creating good bonsai. When it's reached the thickness you want, chop the tree down to a point below your final planned height and start building the new trunk with convincing taper. Growing a sacrifice branch is another method for thickening a trunk that has similar results. Here are a few articles:

Thank you so much for that advise...I'll definitely look at the material and keep those tips in mind.
