So I’m currently in the process of wiring my tree. It’s been cleaned out (haven’t removed too much foliage etc. I noticed yesterday that it has brown tips in a few places on the tree (random places). Is this tip blight? Or potentially just over watering?

kind Regards

Looks to me like dieback from areas cut with shears. If you want to be safe, you could spray with mancozeb.

Thanks for the comments, I live in the north of the Uk. It’s been really sunny, and I’ve been watering twice a day to stop it drying out. I haven’t really cut the profile of it, especially in the areas shown. I am finding it difficult to find mancozeb online for sale in the uk. However, Kaizen bonsai recommends Rose Clear Ultra for the fungus?

It appears to me to be phomopsis (tip blight) based on the following clues:

(1) The tips are only affected in one part of the tree, while the rest of the tree is healthy.
(2) The tips have not been trimmed or cut, nor is there any indication of physical damage.
(3) It is the phomopsis time of year - particularly if you have had a wet spring.

I am not familiar with "Rose Clear Ultra". The active ingredient is triticonazole, which is not used broadly here in the states.

The phomopsis regimen that we used in California consisted of three separate treatments staggered by 7-10 days:

Heritage (sometimes called HeritageG for "granular"), Clearys 3336 and Mancozeb

I’ve treated it with the Rose Clear Ultra as advised by Kaizen. I’ve removed the infected material. Will keep you updated on how it goes. We live and learn, first bonsai, should of done my research. Thanks for the help so far guys.

After 4 applications of the Rose Clear Ultra (10 days between each) the blight seems to be reduced but still forming. I managed to find a fungicide that contained mancozeb (although I believe the RHS has listed it as no longer available for commercial use). I have now applied this (Dithane 945) and it appears to have eradicated all the tip blight and the tree looks healthy (to an extent). I will likely apply one more coating in 10 days, just to ensure that it does not return. Hope this helps people in the future. I will upload photos once I apply the second coating.
