Good day, this is a home depot type sango kaku in my garden that is unwell. Pseudomonas syringae or Verticillium wilt?

Must have happened during this summer or fall.

This plant was sacrificed in the name of science. Not really looking too much like verticillium wilt does it?

Verticillium presents as wilt, not blackening. It does darken vascular tissue, but you'd notice the foliage wilting before you see anything presenting on the bark/trunk.
