Had a busy day yesterday twisting up some plants for future bonsai. Japanese maple, hornbeam, ginkgo, and beech. What was interesting was that within each type (like the ginkgo, for instance) some were very bendy and let me do that I wanted while others I'd bend until I heard crackling and then stop. I did end up breaking two. So, some didn't get as much movement as I'd like but they have many years of development so no big deal. Trying to get the trunks started now and then next year is root work!

I have also had difficulty getting good tight bends in JM. Now wiring even thinner seedlings to get better bends. Make sure you get the wires off the JM early. Ginkgo will probably grow slower but JM will have swallowed the wires by mid summer if they grow as fast as mine did.
