Hi everyone, I'm here asking for ideas on how to educate this old Azalea wreck
Repotted October 2022.
Welcome! Really fun project tree! Lots of really interesting deadwood.
A couple ideas.
Looks best to grow this out another year, but to simplify and work on ramifying what remains. To do this.
- Go through the foliage and reduce any junction to two branches. Do the same at each flower site. Then reduce the foliage to two leaves at each terminal branch. See photos
Next, scrub the deadwood with a toothbrush and water to clean it off. If lime sulfur is available carefully paint it on only the deadwood to preserve the wood. If none available, a thin clear marine epoxy would work. (Deadwood should be dry before using epoxy.)
Let tree grow out.
Repost new images in about 6 weeks.

Il legno è stato trattato con liquido jin e poi una soluzione di aceto e ferro per dargli colore grigio (era troppo bianco e volevo l'effetto incendio).
Farò una selezione dei rami e porterò come hai descritto.
