App??

You should put this in the ideas/ recommendations part of the forum this could be super cool!
Have a live chat, library of resources, podcasts etc

Apps are are a gimmick. I'm a software developer, and highly prefer websites.

I have many reasons, but these two are the best:

* Ability to open threads in new tabs (and keep them open)

* History (built in back/forward nav)

There are very few features that an app can accomplish that websites cannot nowadays.

What features would an app provide you that the forum can't? I can see real time chat, but don't think that's necessary in this context.

Thanks. I’m just always on my phone. For that reason I have a couple other things like surfing and rock climbing forums that all use apps. I think it’s just a bit easier on the phone. But that may just be habit.

If we were talking apps, I wouldn't be here. My wife has tried to buy me a smart phone three times now, but I won't have a smart phone and often resent my flip phone as well.
I also like lever action rifles with iron sites and all of my archery is traditional. I can barely control the TV remote and ours is about as simple as it gets.

Ah, its not too bad on the phone once you get used to it. I agree with @RJG2 the ability to keep multiple threads open for days at a time while I absorb information has proven helpful. To be honest I've enjoy interacting in a traditional forum environment, it brings back memories of earlier times

There was an app a while back if I recall. It really was just a shortcut link to the website, and I believe connected to your forum notifications so you'd get it on your phone. It wasn't around for long because it was a bit buggy, didn't work on some phones at all, and Greig wasn't up for fitting further development into his already busy schedule.

Not necessary IMO and I wouldnt use it. I find that apps oversimplify the GUI and make you do more clicking through screens.
The website works just fine on my phone and my phone isnt a super expensive new phone with all the bells and whistles and lots of storage.
Its like a 3-4 year old model

Not sure about iPhones, but on Android (Chrome browser), it's in the settings menu:

But yeah, it just gives you an icon, and pretty splash screen - and takes away tabs and history.

Oh, hey! I was wondering about that when I got my new phone a while back, but couldn't find it again. Thanks!

Edit: Just realized it appears it's only on the Chrome browser, which I don't use on my phone.

I hear you! But is kind of ironic that you are communicating with all of us right now through state of the art tech bouncing off satellites and zooming around the world. BTW would love to see those rifles and archery gear!

Maybe it’s just time for a new iPhone! I still have an 8 and my kids make fun of me …

True. With and updated phone apps are a thing of the past. I can see and app on a older phone where you couldn’t load websites and had difficulty navigating. I need a new phone is what it boils down to.

Not sure if you mean me or you?
I am not versed in the iPhone models so I have no idea how old an 8 is? I think the 10 is the latest?

As for me, I have an Samsung Android A51. I got it a little over 2 years ago. It works just fine and doesnt need replacing yet. I don't see a reason to spend $1000+ on a new phone. I know there are some people that rush out and get each new version. I'm just not one of those people that needs the latest and greatest thing the second it comes out. I'd rather throw that money into my retirement account.

The web based forum page displays just fine on it and isn't slow at all. The kids can make fun all they want, they aren't paying the bills. The last phone I had went 10 years before I needed to replace it. The store clerk couldn't believe how good of a shape it was still in. Now that's what I call getting my money's worth 😋

FYI - if you are an iPhone user, you can visit the site in Safari and the click the “send to” button that looks like and arrow pointing up and select “add to home screen”. I now have a BNut icon on my screen that I click any time I want to visit the site. It’s not an app, but it makes visiting the site on my phone much easier.

They have been refined pretty well so that they are very mentally ergonomic; intuitive. Just even if the only thing you use is the camera, its worth it.
