I have been using a 1/4” round nose router bits for my carving but don’t like the way it tends to “grab”. It is not too bad and the more I use it the more I can anticipate when it is likely to grab but it still happens.
I was wondering if anyone has tried using a ball end mill for carving. They are available in 2, 3 and 4 flute. I would imagine having additional flutes and helical flutes would help keep it from grabbing. The geometry is for cutting metal so I’m not sure how it would work on wood.
I have done some milling of wood using metal working equipment but that was in a milling machine and not free hand.
