I'd like one for myself but was also planning on having one sent to my stepmother in Florida. Any ideas for a reasonably priced cacao plant?

If allowed I can send seed separately to both of you, in late spring.
Once the soil temperature is warm enough and stable, easy germination.
Just send addresses.
They will be Trinitensis. premium grade cocoa, so break out the muller.

Awesome.. Just awesome. I’m not 100% that it is allowed, but I think it is the kind of thing that is worth a shot.

Pm’ing addresses.

Ps, have you tried the juice of the cacao fruit? It is not naturally sweet, but I love the flavor. In Brasil, they'll blend the fruit with milk and sugar optional. Quite tasty.

I just threw out 9 of them :( I grew them for a couple of years just to see if I could... but they aren't really well-suited for our hot, dry climate.

Juice from the pulp around the seeds is pleasant.
But on this side we have so many plants that give juice,
cocoa would be at the end. More like desperation:eek:

Most of my cocoa comes from Cadbury.
4 Blocks of the English made one a day from the largest bar imported.
I met someone who lives on the former Cadbury estate.
Makes good home refined chocolate.

Cadbury saitisfies Mars and Hershey, is mostly sugar.
And Cadbury is a low end chocolate :)

Grow as one would an indoor ficus or indoor palm pr indoor avocado.
I doubt you can Bonsai a cocoa plant.
It is just not a leaf or branch dense tree.
Or you might end up like Bnut and chucking the plant.

I wasn’t aiming for larger house plant that I would put out for the summers. I would think it is more likely to be happy in Florida however.
