.. well , first thread started here at Bnut and been lurkin to long.. ;o)>
I love tropicals and tropical places.

I mentioned these trees in another's thread, Fallen Reality "Ficus retusa 'gensing'", and I felt a show was appropiate.

The 1st is one I have been growing for about 5 yrs. Can't remember if I got at a club show sale, raffle, or ?.. owner is member here Bonsai_Steve ..it was standard gensing you find at home depot.. a little taller.
I've been growing it on to create an upright. The tall slender tree to the left was the top of the tree.. about 6" or so when I cut it off. For grins I stuck it on the side to deal with later..lol
It rooted so I left it thinking I would repot the main tree before it developed.. woops .. didn't happen.

The 2nd tree, a gift from a member here Bob O , was started as a banyon.. and has been growing for a few years.. also from Home Depot??

The 3rd is another gift from Bob which had grafted on to it an unknown species.. I cut the gensing growth and rooted same... the roots have developed over about 4 yrs and have blended to the original gensing tuber.

The 4th, clump style. is the cut off portion of the 3rd tree.. it had some roots and took off growing without any special care.

I fell the species is under rated and mis understood.. It seems to do well and tolerates cooler winter temps 35F+. I grow my tropicals in an outdoor greenhouse.. so i'm not sure how it handles low light conditions indoors.

... Enjoy !

Interesting Tom. Not bad.

However, do you really think 'Ginseng' is a cultivar of microcarpa? I had always thought the Ginseng label was just what they call microcarpa with the big tubers.

Wow, these are really inspiring to my own efforts! These have given me some hope that I can actually make something out of mine someday. Thank you for sharing these with us!

I do wonder what species #3 is. I really like how it looks!

Hi Ryan.. not really sure about the botanical on it.. like many I pretty much ignored it as a viable species due to the tubers.. :) ill have to check with more educated then myself.

Fallen Reality .. you're welcome. I like the unknown.. looked like the green island somewhat when I first saw it but its growth pattern is very different. Grows very compact , slower and the leaves develope a lil curl. Bob O found some at Home Depot? and at first, cause I always look at trunk and roots first.. :) .. I thought hmmm maybe the gensing has some possiblities.. and It does.. will have to take some time and do research..

Thanks Tom.

The last one looks like your usual microcarpa, could be a Tigerbark, can't tell from the pic.
