Maybe, not sure, we could ask Jeremy with his Mimi maples.
In any case my idea is to develop a kind of elongated coppice head on either side. Yearly cutbacks and regrowth is the plan for now.

It was repotted and pruned this year. Nebari will be a bit atypical, kind of stilted before the spread but should work fine. Quite a few bud sites forming where I want them to so on track to eventually become the interesting lump I hope for.

Did that a few years ago, they start dividing right where they hit the fine roots in the pic. I kind of thinned out the number of roots at the previous cut ends this time.
Still no flowers on those quince seedlings....
