Amur Maple, should I chop it lower?

Nice !

I wish it a strong and, as long as it can get growing season.

I wanna see it in fall.
Go set the timer on the oven as a reminder!

Looks interesting........big scar healing up nicely.......but you might have to really let it grow to keep up its vigor?

Maybe, not sure, we could ask Jeremy with his Mimi maples.
In any case my idea is to develop a kind of elongated coppice head on either side. Yearly cutbacks and regrowth is the plan for now.

It was repotted and pruned this year. Nebari will be a bit atypical, kind of stilted before the spread but should work fine. Quite a few bud sites forming where I want them to so on track to eventually become the interesting lump I hope for. image.jpgimage.jpg

The dreaded Horned Octopus! You should post this in the Ugly Tree thread. :p

Did you cut back the large roots?

Did that a few years ago, they start dividing right where they hit the fine roots in the pic. I kind of thinned out the number of roots at the previous cut ends this time.
Still no flowers on those quince seedlings....

Im curious to see how in scale the leaves become over time with such a small tree,i like amur but unsure of proportions with shohin or mame
