So, decided to put the tree in a large grow bag and cut back the top. I'm going to try and keep the growth contained on the top 2/3 of the tree and let the bottom just grow out.

Interested to see what you do with this. I’ve been playing around with tamarack for a couple years now, but I’ve mostly steered clear of thick, upright trunks. I have no idea how I would style them without a lot of carving! Do you have a plan in mind?

I'm going to try a formal/informal upright. I understand how difficult it is to make a good one but it will be a learning experience. After looking it over though, I think the tree is just way too tall, and I'm going to cut it down lower tonight. Probably in the around here: I only worry that I've already cut 1/3 of the root ball off and probably half the tree down already.
