This Amalanchier was rescued from a rather volatile (for itself) situation. Receding high floodwaters had up-rooted the previously subterranean root system and removed most soil and sediment whilst toppling the majority of the foliage into the shade of a large honeysuckle...

So here it (and the root cuttings taken from said doner) is.... It may survive.. it may not... However, this is a SLIGHTLY more optimistic position than this specimen was previously in. :)

The are tough, hardy shrubs. While timing for collecting is less than ideal, there is a good chance the root cuttings in particular might take. Give them time, see what happens. The fruit on mine has already begun to pick up hints of color. They should be ripe in July. I'll share photos when a little bit more ripe.

These are probably a month away from being ripe. You will have berries to look forward to sometime in the next few years if that stump and those cuttings take.

Thank you! I’m quite looking forward to that possibility.

Thank you also for the species directional advice as well as general collection experience/wisdom. I know you’ve probably said the same things many times to many differing individuals, and I truly appreciate the time taken and energy expended on guiding/directing that you’ve shown me.

That is a great genus to work with! Yours has some great movement. I have 3 in the yard right now. One short old brute, and two skinny pre-literati beanpoles. I’ll get some pics to share if you want. Leo has given good advice, and I love his enthusiasm for amalanchiers.

(((Update))) the main stump.. is toast.

The root cuttings are still alive..just started die-ing back from the cut points.
