So, I have this incredible buckeye in my front yard i am looking to extract. i want to trunk chop it and get it out before the buds start really developing, but i dont know much about buckeyes and how or if they backbud well. my idea is, trunk chop above the lowest node, let it grow branches over this summer, extract next winter. any advice you can give to help me out here? i dont want to ruin such a great specimen. p.s. i already trimmed about 30 percent of the branches, its about a 20 ft tree

I've collected California buckeye and they backbud well. I chopp to the height I want and grow new branches,

Here's one the day I dug it... ( ignore that juniper behind it)

And a few years later...
