Another boxelder maple i dug and wired and put in a pot. Going for something more dramatic with this compared to my other boxelder. I have another one in the ground to dig up in a few years also. I think three of these are enough.

Not to hijack, but see so few of these. I like it.

Good luck with yours!

Internodes look pretty tight on that one. Really nice! I think they are a fun species so far. Petiole length is a concern initially, but after a little ramification, they seem to shorten.

If it lives, I expect to give them!

Check out my other Boxelder in the mean-time:

Pass along a comment of a spectacularly aged tree. Really well done!

Can you post an updated photo? Can your friend send what it looks now lare spring?

I believe I underfertilized this because leaf color is a bit off. Still grew well. I fertilized with some miracle grow.

You can see the leaf color next to my alder which is always the right color green due to its nitrogen fixing ability:

End of year. Added .11" to the thickness. Needs a repot next spring - it's been two years. Will repot and heavily fertilize.

End of year. Did ok. I think next year it will do well due to a late fertilization and recovery from repotting.

Looks like an insect mark on the tip of this branch...

I tried scraping them off but they were super hard. Idk.. they are exactly at 90deg angles to each other on the little branch.
I think it’s more insect eggs! You had another post last fall with similar, but larger eggs. Willing to beg these are from a similar creature. They probably eat the bugs you don’t want. Not certain but I bet.

Last year.had katydid eggs on a juniper. Youre right. These are waaaay different.
