It was the best of sales,
it was the worst of sales,
it was the age of wiseguys,
it was the age of tomfoolery,
it was a web page of incredulity,
it was a shipment of doubt.
we had nothing to lose,
we were all going to Home Depot,
we were all going to Customer Service.
For those of you who cut roots and trees with reciprocating saws, you may appreciate this. Not all sales are easy to spot. Not all purchases are easy to pull off. Sometimes you listen to people on the ASPD spectrum and end up feeling stupid. Your mileage may vary.
Home Depot might be running a 2-for-1 sale on "12 in. 3 TPI Demo Demon Carbide Reciprocating Saw Blades for Pruning and Clean Wood Cutting (2-Pack)". The one blade pack and the two blade pack are exactly the same price, $11.97 after a $1.00 discount. The selections have different web URLs. That's good enough for me.
Maybe it's a BOGO pricing. Maybe it's a bogus price. Either way, ordered it.
When in doubt on web pricing, ship it to the store. Be sure to open the package in front of a Customer Service employee. That's what I did. Sure enough, only one blade was in the pouch.
"There's supposed to be two blades in here," I say.
The nice Customer Service person checks the order and sees that it is supposed to be two blades and says "Go get one off the shelf." I do so. I return with the blade. "You're good to go, sir." Now THAT is Customer Service.
I've ordered another pair of blades, but they're being shipped to a different store. The first is close to my office. The second is on my way home. There is a third store close to my home, but let's see how order number 2 goes.
Catahoula Lake is calling me. The water level, managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, is very low. The time for collecting stunted bald cypress and stunted water elms is now. Tomorrow night, I'll be camping on the playa itself. That will be a separate story.
