I have these two ficuses (ficusae? Ficii?) which are doing fine. I was wondering if I could maybe graft the little one on top of the large one. Would that be dumb?

Grafting can certainly be done but I can't see why anyone would want to spoil what looks like a quite nice ficus (apart from needing some trimming)

IIRC Nigel Saunders from Youtube has a Grafted ficus with the same idea. He took a small ficus and put on top of a larger base..

Worth to check out on it to satisfy your curiosity

Nigel planted a rooted ficus cutting on top of a tree where the apex died. Not exactly a graft per se but an example of what's possible with ficus.

This is completely irrelevant, but I'm seeing both "fici" and "ficus" as the actual Latin plural forms of "ficus." What's interesting is that almost all Latin words belong to one declension or conjugation, but "ficus" has entries in both 2nd and 4th declensions. Some of the forms are forced 2nd, but either is a valid nominative plural form.

Anyway, I would get an uglier ficus to graft onto.

Yeah, i’ll probably try it someday with some uglier specimens.

I’ll check it out, thanks!
