Here are some photos of the process of putting together my giant forest planting. Al brought it up in another thread so I thought I'd give it it's own.

Always amazed when I see this. As a New Yorker I appreciate it very much.

Simply amazing, thanks for sharing.

Great job. I like it better, though, with less foliage.

Do you ever expect to move that -- and how?

Right now its in pieces spread throughout the nursery. :(A couple of years ago in August during a 110+ heat wave my neighbor to the west cut down 5 mature elm trees which caused two major problems- 1. took away the afternoon shade that everything had been used to growing in so things started frying and 2. caused a massive infestation of spider mites. I lost about 15 trees in the planting including the 4 biggest. I got tired of people asking what happened so I dismantled it and started looking for replacements. I have them all again except the #1 tree and will probably reassemble it either this coming fall or next spring.

Thanks Bob! That thing is quite an undertaking.

Like many from my region I spend time today reflecting on the events from years ago....Every year among all the thoughts this planting comes to mind. Figured i'd ask for an update if BP wishes to share.

I'll never forget.

Too bad about the planting. Give me the word and me and few boys will give that neighbor a visit. ;) I would have hoped he spoke with you prior to the cutting. But nowadays, nothing surprises me. Anyway, Bravo to you and yours for making it. If its meant to be, it will be....again.
questions: the slab, I was assuming was man made, and I make my own as well, was curious what you might have used for added support in the mix? Where all the trees the same variety? What was the over all Dim's of the slab? Sorry for the questions, just like to pick fellow artists on what and how they create to increase my own knowledge. If there is a post and/or thread that all this is own , by all means direct me there.
Thanks again, and keep up the faith! 911 foreva'!

The slab is approximately 8' long by about 31/2" wide . It was made of a rebar frame covered with 1/2 mesh hardware cloth, than three layers of resin soaked fiberglass fabric with some colors added to the resin. It also had some small pebbles and bits of dirt thrown onto it to add texture and a little more color.
