Who is using LED grow panels?

I have one of the viparspectra units and it seems to be fine (this is the first winter for it). Have a bunch of tropicals and orchids under it and they have done well this winter, some of the higher light orchids have bloomed. I will say though, that I put my BRT under it and might have had it...

Pretty sweet result! My layers rarely produce such a dense/well distributed set of roots.

    PIGLET CHAPTER 2

That really looks great, Sergio. Trying to get an idea of size...can you give me an idea, maybe width of pot or height of tree or something? Probably in the thread somewhere but I haven't seen it.

    Mirai in HBO documentary

One thing to remember...Ryan was abused for what, 6 or so years in Japan? Read through that New Yorker article where he says Kimura "effed me up bad." He admitted hitting other apprentices when he was the senior apprentice over there. Then when he came back he drove away his earliest Mirai...

    32 year old Acer Rubrum

I've found that most of the photos I take need to be adjusted to some degree before posting. Especially with fall color - sometimes the hue is off, sometimes the intensity. Different cameras will also produce different results, the lighting matters, exposure all can impact the quality of the image.

    Mirai new nutrition concepts

So, what was the original impetus behind the idea of nitrates? I recall reading a series of papers about container gardening where they looked at the impact of water quality (specifically water alkalinity) and how it could push soil pH out of whack over time, making it too high (I believe). This...

    Mirai new nutrition concepts

I remember him saying there was a brand he preferred - Bounty I think? (but not sure). However, I don't recall the joke about sponsorship though I could easily see him saying that.

    Mirai new nutrition concepts

I am glad Ryan is experimenting, testing trees, trying to find "better" ways to do this bonsai thing. However, I will be happy to sit on the sidelines a while and see how this pans out. I think back a few years to the last "revolution" in nutrition that Ryan was experimenting with - some kind of...

    Tropicals migrating inside

Can't speak for everyone, but in my case - we have a long, dark winter. Our old house doesn't have great windows with southern exposure and I only have limited space for supplemental lighting. So, I opt to keep them outside as long as possible in the fall to take advantage of natural light. That...

    A little shoo-in JBP

I've spoken to Adair and the reason given by Paradox is pretty accurate. Saw Adair at the National Show and suggested he should return to bnut but he didn't seem interested.

    RED CHOJUBAI [Chaenomeles japonica]

What treatment did you try for nematodes? There may be some kind of predatory nematodes available, Neil was talking about that a couple of years ago though it may have been more for root aphids. Arbco or something similar was the company name I believe...but would have to double check.

What have I done? A couple of new ficus trees...

Some updates...are we making progress on these? Maybe, but it's slow in this climate. Keep in mind the long term goal with both of these is to produce more finer branching and open up some negative space so you can see the structure, and reduce the "green helmet" appearance. Not there yet...

    Tropical bonsai

It's an interesting issue. I was browsing through some books and videos by Jerry Mieslik the other day. For those who don't know, he grew large ficus bonsai in Montana, mostly or completely indoors under high intensity lighting. He claims that even if your ficus doesn't show immediate damage...

    Tropical bonsai

Last night was the first night I brought the BRT and willow leaf ficuses into the garage. Think it got down to somewhere between 40-45. I have other ficuses (microcarpa types and tiger bark) that I leave out until temps start dropping below 40. I keep them out as long as possible in the fall to...

So someone "literally died because of it" (no ac in venue) , but also "I don't know the exact details, it seemed to be heat exhaustion related but happened at the hotel not at the venue..." Got it. No doubt they need to do something about the ac/ventilation. It really was uncomfortable in there...

How far in advance did this (no covered wagon) become known to people? Was it a last minute decision or something that was known for months or longer? Did a truck break down or something, not enough trees, just wondering why they decided not to do it this year.

You seem to have a lot to say on this topic, but this is where you draw the line? Why even bring it up if you're not going to give some details. Anyone else here see the stream? I used to be a mirai member but dropped it a couple of years ago.
