    Sorce pots

Good luck with your account. I only just started on FB and have had my account disabled twice in a week for reasons unknown. Opened the account, it was disabled 10 minutes later. re-enabled 3 days later, used it for thirty minutes, added a few friends, and it was disabled again. I've barely used...

    Sorce pots

So it goes. He goes from growin' "green" to dealin' pot. What a world. I love that mottled glaze. I just took my first pottery class this week, and look forward to trying to make pots for some of my trees.

    The minds of plants

I used to meddle at robotics. There was an artificial neuron circuit many of us used to create simple "neural networks," Proffered up by Mark Tilden, they simulated the way a biological neuron worked from designing robots that sought or avoided particular stimuli. One fella built a six-legged...

    The importance of proper handwriting

Oh hell no. I have worked with exceptional teachers in a broad range of fields and the skill they all have in common is the ability to stoke the fires of curiosity, passion, and temper it with method and discipline once it's hot. The whole "weeding out" is how you stoke your own ego, not your...

    Anthropomorphism in trees

As an alternative to Anthropoid, I rather like the exposed root trees that look like they have uprooted themselves and gone walkabout.

Examples of ''thinking outside the box''...

I really like that last one. I was in a nice Chinese restaurant that had a large round koi pond with a beautiful maple grouping in the center under a overhead spot. I was disappointed to find out later that the trees were fake, but it was an attractive setup.

    Witch hazel pruning(Hamamelis intermedia)

Oh heck yeah, that's what got me excited about this. We had a week of colder-than-normal temps that sent a wave of buds into opening early so there are some already showing. I am looking forward to a January display.

    Witch hazel pruning(Hamamelis intermedia)

How hard can you prune these guys? I recently was gifted with one. "Jenna" I'm guessing from the flowers. 3 inch caliper trunk, very open shape, with all the buds out on the ends of the current branches. I have seen these styled and really like the look (yeah, I know leaves don't reduce for...

    diatomaceous earth

I know DE pool filters do not alter calcium levels, so I suspect any buildup would be superficial, but I've never tested this.

    diatomaceous earth

It's a little bigger, but not by a lot, so you're still going to have a fair amount of byproduct.

    diatomaceous earth

I enjoy shohin, so the optisorb is a great size. I poke holes in the bottom of the bag, then run the waterhose into the top, fill the bag and let it drain several times till it runs more-or-less clear, dry it under a heat lamp (turning it each day) until more-or-less dry, and sift it to about...

    The future of our planet

Your grasp of geochemistry and geophysics is astounding. Seriously though, it's true, Russian scientist in the late 40's and early 50's I believe started researching the possibility of abiogenic petroleum. In the time since, what has been found has been less than convincing, but not ruled out...

    The future of our planet

Love the discussion, but seriously, your ad hominem reposte needs work. Euroweenie? Sounds like some kind of meatless hotdog for the latterday yuppies or a forgettable summer comedy starring some kid I've never heard of. You can do better. I have faith in you. We all do. Please don't let us down.

    The future of our planet

Our population has been able to grow because of cheap energy, which has and will grow more expensive. No seriously. I'd be happy to be on the wrong side of history here. I hope to be wrong for a long, long time. But I also believe in hedging your bets. Good runs don't last forever and as they...

    Bristol Bay.

Pebble Mine is owned and promoted by a board that are largely conservative (actually conservative, not buzzword conservative) trying to turn some kind of revenue on what has shaped up to be a very bad investment. The resistance to their project has cut across political parties. It is "Local" vs...

    The future of our planet

People change when it is too expensive not to, and usually after the damage is done. We will commit suicide collapsing our ecological niche, and still point and yell partisan thetoric while we choke on our own shit. Isolated communities will live on. Most of us that rely on massive...

Alaskans put a one page bill on the ballot that would likely have either stopped this mine or forced in to operate under some very strict parameters. 1 page, plain english. Well, the money that poured into the state to stop it was amazing. Radio ads called it all the buzzwords, including the...
