New JBP and newbie to Bonsai

Hi Rick. Welcome to the sight. You’ll love it. There’s such A good concentration of nice people with so much experience to learn from. I’m pretty new myself so I do a lot of reading and not much posting. But one suggestion I have is you don’t need a bonsai nursery near you or to buy online. One...

MABS April 7-9, 2017 Cromwell, CT

Oh I hope I didn't offend. I apologize if I did. That's the danger with commenting on things thru text. Sometimes your sentiment gets lost in translation. I didn't intend to sound negative. I know it's gonna be a great event that a lot of hard work and overhead goes into. And I'm sure the price...

I was excited about it 'till I saw how much they wanted just to get thru the door. Nevermind the workshops. Maybe It's me but I thought they're a bit over the top. Although I'm sure it's a fantastic event with outstanding people to learn from.

    Cheap Chinese elm

http://www.bonsaiboy.com/catalog/product17.html I've bought a couple more economical trees from these guys and was pleased with the buying experience. Stuff was as shown, packed well and healthy. Only thing they probably won't ship in temps that will harm the tree til they go up a bit...which of...

Going to freeze tonight - how worried about weird weather?!

Yeah we lost all our native peaches here in Connecticut last year. Hopefully Those poor guys don't have back to back seasons wiped out.

Better take a seat for this one...Fukien dropping leaves

Thanks for the words of encouragement Leo. Not fun to lose something you put a lot of work into but I knew going in, most people find em difficult to sustain. But they're cool little trees and I'm sorry I failed it. It's exactly like you said. It was ok last year, than this winter just took a...

Yeah I'd say mine was a drying out issue. I had it just next to a humidifier. When I moved it into a fishtank enclosed with the humidifier it was to far gone. To little to late I suppose. Thanks. Hope yours continues to thrive.

Young trees and fluctuating temps entering spring

Thanks very much music-maker. Much appreciated. Good to have someone weigh in that has good first hand experience with Lindens. I know they're tough hardy trees but haven't seen many threads or chatter about them here or even online in the way of bonsai to pull info from. Sounds like yours has...

Young trees and fluctuating temps entering spring

So I have a couple long term projects in their first stages. A Ben Hoshi JRM "1 year" graft and this Little Leaf Linden (tilia cordata) 3 years from seedling. I've been doing the inside and out dance with them and this screwy weather the past couple weeks. They've been outside as of late in the...

    Air Layering in the "wild"?

That's a damn inventive thought on the wicks Sorce. Know anyone who's practiced that or is that there a Sorce original?

Oh your winters are about the same as mine lazylightning. How do you over winter yours? And while we're on the subject of air layering when is the best time to start an air layer? Right when the tree breaks dormancy. Let it grow for a bit?

Well thanks very much for the input guys. I appreciate it. Had a feeling it was gonna be bleek. Here are some shots of the scratch test? Suppose it would be wiser to stick to trees hardier in my region here. Thanks Bonsai Nut for the insights. Not happy about leaving another dead tree in my wake...

Been trying really hard to resist burdening folks with my FT issues. I know it's a constant with those of us with less experience and/or have FTs in unideal zones, and I know there's plenty of info online. But I can't get this tree back on track no matter what I do so I'm breaking down and...
