    Safe Nighttime Temps for Ficus

Both me and my trees stay inside when the temp get below 40f. Fortunately, this only happens 3-4 times a winter, otherwise i'd have to move further south ;)

    The "NOT SHOHIN" maple forest

I love the slant look. Most of the forest plantings i've seen are symmetrical. This design inspires me to change my thinking. Thank you.

    South Florida Summer and Bonsai

I water every day until it starts raining. Once that starts, the rain gods do better at watering my trees than I do... I have Ficus, Oak, BRT, bougainvillea, Cypress, and some maples. The Japanese maple's leaves will get crispy if they are out in full sun, Red and Trident do ok. All my...

I've been using it for about a year. Never done any serious controlled experiments but it seems to work ( confirmation bias ;) )

Suggestions for a bonsai from seed

Go native. Mesquite and palo verde. I spent most of my life in Tucson until moving to Florida 5 years ago. When I go back for a visit this fall i'm planning on bringing back a bunch of seed pods and some small collected trees.

    A HIGHLY unusual news item...

My grandma was kid during the depression and never fully trusted banks. She always kept money stuffed in coffee can though out her house. When we had to finally mover her, there were cans of money hidden all over the place. But dang, I never did check the TV ;)

Taking the rock out of a root over rock elm

Don't know... if it were mine, I'd just trim the roots and put it in a training pot for a few years while I grew out some better branches.

Laurel Oak - Guy Guidry workshop

Yesterday I went to Wigert's bonsai in Ft. Myer's FL for an Oak workshop with Guy Guidry. This was my first Oak and my first "big" bonsai. I was very excited to see carving in person and learn how it could be incorporated into my trees overall design. The workshop with Guy as excellent. I...

Ficus Trees - Not doing so well - Advice needed

It looks very thirsty :( How often are you watering it? With that shallow of a pot I would expect at least one a day. Mine live happily outside year round, but I'm in FL and I have brought them inside for the night twice this year when the nighttime temperature was forecasted to get down...

Looks like nice material. They are fun to work with and can be pruned back hard. I would remove and thin most to all of the small branches and work on building a few defined pads. Keep the cutting as they root very easily. I have a bunch of cutting I started a few months ago and they grow like...
