Help Needed for Green Island Ficus

It appears to be coming back. Most leaves turned yellow. I repotted it, which it didn't seem to need, the roots looked good. I defoliated all the yellow leaves and now it seems to be growing healthy ones. Thx for the inquiry.

Help Needed for Green Island Ficus

I poked and dug around the pot and the soil is not compacted. It is actually quite open and just slightly damp and the roots look fine, no evidence of rot. My wife showed it to a local botanist at her orchid club and he stated that ficus in this area will react like that when exposed to lower...

Help Needed for Green Island Ficus

I do agree there is no evidence of bugs. It s planted in a fired shale out of Arkansas with about 1/3 pine bark. The shale is very porous and all my ficus do exceptionally well planted in it, untill now. Thax, Alan

Help Needed for Green Island Ficus

I have attached, as requested, a photo of the tree straight on and one of the bottom of the leaves. The spots on the leaves are smooth, are not raised or indented. As I had mentioned we have received a lot of rain the last few months with night temperatures dropping into the 40° range. I have...

Help Needed for Green Island Ficus

Would appreciate advice how what direction to go with this Green Island Ficus. Location is NE Florida. We have had a lot of rain but the soil is extremely well draining. It stays outdoors and temps have gone down in the 50s. I have protected it at any temp below 40. It has always been extremely...

    Ficus Leaf Issue

I believe it was a mineral deficiency. The amount of water required down here in 90° + temperatures probably washed most of the nutrients out of the inorganic soil. But I've been wrong before.. Often in error, never in doubt

    Ficus Leaf Issue

Thanks for your response. The sun really seems to cook these plants, but I have established a solid watering pattern and I notice that most of the Florida bonsai nurseries keep their bonsai and pre-bonsai in full sun. Using inorganic soil does require increased watering during these months and...

    Ficus Leaf Issue

Can someone point me in a direction concerning the discoloration of some leaves on what appears to be a healthy Ficus showing constant new growth. NE Florida, outdoors in full sun. We are experiencing very high temperatures 90-95°, rains almost everyday for a short period. Thx

    Brown Needles on Black Pine

Have been experiencing these new growth needles going totally tan (straw color) and some research I have done suggest heat. Watering once a day and twice when over 90 degrees. I was wondering what other possible causes may be at play here. It is happening on other BPs, almost entirely on new growth.

    Bald Cypress in the South

Moved down here from the north and lost many of my trees due to the change of environment. Brought them down frozen in Dec and it seemed to screw up their cycle plus other other factors created havoc. I am now starting with some BC and have no idea when the dormant and growing season begins and...

    Seller's Responsibility

Thanks for your reply, but I wasn't seeking diagnosis. I was interested in others opinions regarding seller's responsibility.

    Seller's Responsibility

Thanks for all your replies. While I did order three trees, all the same species, from a specific seller one is doing extremely poorly. They were all maintained the same. My inquiry was one of curiosity as I do not have any definite cause of the tree's situation. I did contact the seller, but...

    Seller's Responsibility

New to bonsai game and couldn't find info on the site, so please excuse if this is a repeat topic. What is the responsibility of a bonsai tree seller who is activity engaged in selling tress, not a one time sale between individuals? I understand if it is a sale of one tree that it becomes...

    Bald Cypress Soil Difference

Attached is a photo of the pine bark mulch I mix 50/50 with Turface. It's not the big chunks but I don't believe it's as fine as soil conditioner. Is there any reference chart available showing the relative water retention of the various inorganic soils? ?

    Bald Cypress Soil Difference

That sounds logical. I will increase the Turface trees watering schedule.

    Bald Cypress Wiring

From a Bald Cypress article on the bci site. "I don’t wire my bald cypress. While the small branches are flexible and can be wired without breaking them off, they do not set in the new position. Take the wire off and they spring right back into their former position. Neither do I fertilize...

    Bald Cypress Wiring

I'm new to bald cypress bonsai and doing a lot of research. I have read that wiring bald cypress is useless because the branches will return to their original position once the wires are removed. Yet I have seen stunning examples of BC bonsai wired. What is the consensus of the experienced BC...
