    Ulmus Minor #2

I started an air layer on this, as I kept thinking of a much better shorter tree. I got bored with this fast, as you can see by the no updates on the thread. Its got a great base though. Hopefully ill have the 2 trees by the end of the year. Air layer pics and info...

Air layer of a Field Elm - UK

A tree I've had for a few years, and I liked it to begin with but the idea of a much shorter tree, with its 3 large, already gnarly looking primary branches and very strong base, was too strong to ignore. So I decided to air layer this tree, as the top is not bad and has good age, and interest...

    Ben and Luke (Ulmus Parvifolia)

Not great pics, need clearer light and backing. Anyways, this tree continues to grow well and look aged.

    Acer Palmatum 'Beni-Chidori'

Grew well, put on bulk. Mostly shortened now, some branches left long for further taper development. With a stocky base and FAT ASS, I want this maple to have some thick primaries. Also I foresee the canopy being large, perhaps even out of proportion with the trunk but, I want that.

    Acer Palmatum 'Beni-Maiko'

It grew well this year, really fattened up some branches which its needed for a while I kept doing major removals. Left to grow out all year to put on bulk Only 1 pic for now which looks mildly presentable.

    European Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus)

19/03/2020 02/01/2021 20 minutes ago (from this view the far left branch looks WAY out of proportion) I don't have much to say really. I shortened twigs, a few removals, wired branches around a bit. Few long thin branches to feed inner branches but wired up. Needs its substrate...

    Corylus avellana 'Contorta'

Very cool. You've been blessed with a nebari of some sort.. which is more than what any of my guys gave me. I've one which is kinda in development, windswept. I've still got.my first one, pictured above, still in the same big pot for 4 years. It's actually a cool trunk and a chunk, about double...

    Can somebody ID this stump

Sounds like it'll make a cool tree then. Make sure you use that to your advantage. Maybe accelerate the rotting by 50-70 years. It's a nice little lump, long term project but still.

    Can somebody ID this stump

Yeah I'm gonna vote olive too. European olive, not the other one (other popular one, silvestris or something, literally too lazy to Google it!). The growth habit is a bit weird, there's something off about it, but mostly saying olive. Leaf shape is olive and I can see the texture of the leave...

    Copper Beech Airlayer1

He has gone in to quite a deep hibernation. He does still have a number of trees for development, like this. I'll ask if he can post some updates, cos why not!

    Ben and Luke (Ulmus Parvifolia)

Its been a while! The "Luke" tree from this thread, I put in ground. Got bored. The Ben tree is my star CE, love the little tree. This year he actually dropped all his leaves (the last 50 might have been persuading...). I think this is the first time I've had pics of this tree with no leaves...

    Common Pear

It was time to prune this tree... It grows very fast, if I have not said that previously. Teaming with aphids too. 2 branches left to thicken. Just standard clip and grow, most all cut back to 2 nodes.

    Leatherbacks Arakawa maple

Lol thanks. I don't quite sign up to the same timings as some may say on the forum, I'm sure the tree will be fine, let's not dive in to that controversy now! Who has the time?! :) It's roots were even better than I thought, tons of small roots everywhere. Tree was roughly cut afterwards to...

    Leatherbacks Arakawa maple

Would have loved the help. Took me about 2 hours of sawing away to half the root ball. Finally got it off.. exhausting work. Soil is so dense, cutting wood whilst the saw is constantly stuffed with soil is a nightmare. Now it's just cutting slabs of root, soil and wood away to get it as...

I agree, thanks! Love the little elm, a lot of character, will only get better. Don't be too enthusiastic! :) Thanks

    Common Pear

This tree is still early in development but it is one of the few trees that genuinely excites me for its future. Its moving fast, as usual, having pushed out cm's of growth already. The large wounds are starting to heal but I don't plan for them to ever heal over, I'll be looking to carve them...

    English Elm

This is one of my fav trees and is continuing to be. I will perhaps, this weekend, try to flatten its root base a bit more to fit better in the pot. Aside from that just normal maintenance pruning during winter. I should also have probably weeded it again...

    European Hornbeam #3

Whoops. Didnt know someone actually posted on here. Nothing done with this yet, its just been left for 2 years. I believe, this weekend, I am finally going to tackle it.. been psyching myself up for the beast of a job it is to reduce that root ball. Will post, once done.

    Acer Palmatum 'Beni-Chidori'

Might be finally on to some kind of good track with this maple now.. maybe. Apex grew well and was cut. Most of the tree is left just maintenance pruned, but would like to grow out the primaries all around it, get some bulk on them to be in better proportion with the fat bottomed trunk. Will try...

    Acer Palmatum 'Beni-Maiko'

"Bear with, trying new image hosting" Like I said last year August, ONE day it will look good. But it is not this day. Grew well last year, good health, no major improvements. May: Fast forward to 10/04/22, I have removed a larger portion of the main trunk as I have been unhappy with it...

    Japanese Maple dying branches

Hello, Someone better than me will reply, but what variety of Acer P is this? Also other branches have clearly leafed out so thats a good sign. IF some branches have died off, personally, I would think of roots. Branches and roots hold quite a direction relationship. If a stem of roots dies...

Proposal: CE Mallsai / Cheap as chips Contest

Oh wow, gave it the real chop! Well done. Last year I fell off the bonsai wagon, and I hated the idea of starting another BNut contest which didn't get followed through with. I've a few that I got recently and put in the ground, even though I made this contest, I'm unsure if they fit criteria...
