    Identification help

I am getting ready to pull this out of the ground, changing the landscaping. Can anyone identify what this is? I know I'm asking a lot, but there's some smart people here.

    My first bougainvillea

Thanks to UNC and Gonzaga, I won my March Madness pool. With the winnings, I signed up for a workshop with Adam Lavigne and purchased this bougie to work on. I had a green island ficus I've been saving for a workshop, but I found this guy interesting. It's my first bougie, I'm really...

    My Bald Cypress

After the workshop, I've brought my bald cypress home. I'm ecstatic with him, but I've got a question now for you guys, something I failed to ask at the workshop. I picked up this black tub at Lowes for $6. It's black plastic, no holes in it, and the picture on the label has a happy...

    Bald cypress nursery stock

Whats important to you guys when selecting a Bald Cypress from a nursery? I'm looking now and it's a fairly hefty investment, just looking for some thoughts.

    Brazilian RainTree Ramification

My BRTs are starting to do well. Quick question, what's the best way you guys have found to introduce some ratification? Thanks!

    Fusing a ficus

So, I had five little whips of ficus that I had been growing on the side. Didn't do much to them at all, just water and fertilizer. Sometimes. Often times, because I had them stashed away, I'd forget about them, but they did soak up rainwater and some sun. Yesterday, I finally got around...

    Can this be used?

My wife wants this gone. I'd rather not get rid of it, can any of you guys see it being used as Bonsai? I'm thinking not, but maybe I'm missing something. I'm not even sure what kind of tree it is.

    Raintrees!!!

I picked up two BRTs today and can't wait to get at them! Some of you guys are design experts, and have given me great advice in the past. The first one, the tall one, I'm thinking an informal upright cut in a canopy-type style. The lowest branch will be a sacrifice branch. That's my...

    Portulacaria Afra trimming

Hey guys, I've got a question for you. In trying to thicken up this portulacaria's pads, how far would you cut back? Just the tip, or further back down the branch? The branches are about where I want them, but I want to thicken up the foilage. I've recently pinched the larger leaves and...

    S-shaped Chinese elm?

I have an s-shaped Chinese Elm buried in the ground to thicken, a gift from a well intentioned friend. It's growing like a weed, I've been clipping the leggy branches. In fact, my ne'er-do-well little brother cut a number of branches off with a weedeater last month when he was down to visit...

    Small bugs in my soil

Just came back from holiday, my trees have been chewed up. The leaves have been chewed on and there are small little bugs, kinda look like gnats in my soil. Recommendations? I've applied some neem oil, I'll put the trees back on a neem oil schedule, unless someone has better advice.

    Beginner stands

i had some wood laying around so I made a couple of cheap looking stands. They're not professional by any means, but they'll be useful around the house. Not great pics, but here you go.

    Water measuring devices

Does anyone use them? Im talking about the little "wands" they sell at Home Depot and such. I use a soil that's a majority of lava rock with a little bit of turf ace and some organics. I have been using a chopstick to help measure how wet the soil is, but it's proved a little unreliable...

Going to my first club meeting

I'm attending my first club meeting tomorrow and wanted to see what I could expect. There is going to be a demo and some critique of trees, I don't plan on bringing one. They said to bring deciduous trees, but my only one is still in the ground. Really looking forward to it.

    We have a manatee sighting.

Sitting on the dock last night, having a cocktail, my little dog was going crazy, whining and growling at the water. We have iguanas quite often and he chases them off, so we figured there was an iguana somewhere around. While we were sitting there, a head and two big nostrils poked out of...

    Orchids?

I figure this is the place to ask, I don't want to have to join another forum. My wife was trying to think of what to use these candle holders for, she doesn't want me to hang them on the fence behind my bonsai bench though. She thought about placing orchids in them and hanging them from...

    Lavendar Star - Grewia Occidentallis

I picked up this Lavendar Star a few weeks ago and the soils seems to be a little compacted. When watering, the water runs off to the low parts of the pot for the most part, then it eventually seeps in. I'm not sure if it's because the soil is compacted or the moss on top of the soil...

    My backyard bench

I put this bench in last year, it looks amateurish, but it think that's kinda charm of it. I'm planning on adding two individual smaller platforms off of the legs. My location isn't great bug wise, I'm battling little spider webs constantly, but it gets wonderful morning sun and some...

My Fukien Tea with a question.

Here's a Fukien Tea I just repotted a week ago. It's recovering in the shade right now, out of the wind. I'll probably start introducing it to some dappled sun in a day or so. The question I have is about this knee. Should I snip it? I've read that exposed roots can create water issues...

    Introduction, I'm a new member.

Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Joe, I'm new to the forum and new to Bonsai, having only started this hobby over the last two years. I live in South Florida, all my trees are outside and get plenty of morning sun. I'm quite excited to start attending some club meets in the local...
