Second one has no nebari to speak of. At that age and size, can you still grow out a nebari? If the other side of the surface roots is similar to the first pic in the OP, I'd go for the first one.

Judging from the first 2 pics, looks like light source is from window couple feet away. Ficus might not die outright but it may just be another gangly houseplant. I don't know if b cherry is as forgiving as the ficus seeing how this ficus has buds popping and the other looks pretty beat up...

Welcome aboard 😀 Unfortunately the food source for the bugs are the trees themselves so in order to rid the bugs you have to lose the trees which is not the goal here. Did the guy tell you anything about grow light and air movement? Those trees are getting weak and not getting any better...

Imo it's possible. Though different species, I've seen people post on here j maples that looks like young trees but where actually older. This is the rare NONSAI Though 😆 🤣 😂

Same here. Mines has brown outs and crispy dried on some interior leaves. All outer ones are nice healthy green and growing. I also water twice a day and it gets morning to evening full sun, even on the hottest days.

I had 100% success rate that one time when I put like 8 or so cuttings ranging from chop sticks size to pinky size in regular jar of water. Left them out on the bench where they get direct morning and evening sun too!
