Air Layering a Short Needle Pine, Southern Louisiana

Alright folks, I've been eye-balling these short needle pines for a while, out at my grandparents house. They have some on an adjacent property that I plan on digging up this coming winter, that are a good height, but then there are a couple that would make better air layer candidates. Does...

Any word on the Windows version? I'd like to get it on my computer at home, I hate using my phone screen for things.

    Interesting Bald Cypress

I'm going to be changing things on it...lol.. I may even decide to do something completely different with it. But right now, I'm letting it recover.

    Interesting Bald Cypress

That Penjing idea might actually look pretty neat... I'm going to see how it responds to collecting, and give it a couple years of growth to see where it wants to go. but getting low buds on those trunks is what I'm hoping for currently, that way I have more material to choose from in the...

    Interesting Bald Cypress

By "left trunk," do you mean the larger of the two (the main trunk with the large tap root underneath) or the smaller of the two (the one coming off from the hollowed ground level trunk with small roots under it)?

    Interesting Bald Cypress

Found in the swamp near my grandfathers house (I get most of my trees from this area. Lol) It's been put into a tub of potting soil for now.

    Local Species Awareness Program.

I'm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana now and am learning our locals. But here's the list I can think of currently that I've seen. Chinese Elm (used as a roadside tree downtown, there are thousands of seedlings along the sidewalks right now.) Bald Cypress And as far as the evergreen goes; Yaupon...

    Azalea "Beast"

I do need to treat it, because it's starting/has been rotting. Hopefully I can get some good guidance with the local club here in Baton Rouge.

    Azalea "Beast"

Here it is in it's cement tub. I have the tub sitting on 4x4's in order to allow it to drain without water standing underneath.

    Azalea "Beast"

Some pictures of it in the pot I transported it to my house in, and some close ups of it's trunk. Look at the character that's there... (There are two dead limbs that will need to be removed, and some dead trunk that I will need to figure something out with. And I need to take a soft bristled...

    Azalea "Beast"

A little back story on this plant... My grandfather, long ago, ran a nursery and landscaping business out of his house, at one time he had over 1000 azalea bushes growing on his property. The ones I used to run around, hide in, and jump out to scare my siblings, mom, and aunts, still line a...

It's been a while. I need to get my hands on some legitimate bonsai soil instead of the regular potting soil I've been using, but I didn't want this tree to have too vertical of root growth, so I made this grow box out of a tote that my father had laying around and placed it in there. I remember...

I do want focus on that trunk. And would like it to be about the hight it currently is, maybe slightly taller, though I hear that A.rubrum leaves don't reduce well. That will most likely pose a problem. But, my current issue is trying to figure out where exactly I wish to have the main limbs...

I still haven't been able to get wire (baby on the way and all my money is going towards supplies for the little guy, he's due any day now). But here is how the tree looks currently. I used a couple pieces of wire with some weights on it in order to get the lower limbs to lay a little more flat...

This is the rock I found today while in the woods at work. I have an idea that might look pretty sweet using a cutting from my Ficus benjamina.... Or perhaps the air layer that I will be doing... The choices.....

    "J.T.Lovett" Azaleas

Those are really cool. I have an azalea in my back yard that I'm in the process of trying to ID it's variety. It has some of the most intense flowers (the most petals) I've seen in person on an azalea, and the bush is absolutely covered.

That thought hadn't occurred to me. Oh, and while at work today I found more of this species. One of my coworkers said it looks like a Chokeberry to him.

Yeah, I'm definitely wanting to get some length on those limbs. Just need to get some wire here in a week or two. I already see a problem on the top, since there are 3 sprouting from the same spot. I need to choose one and let it grow (it may end up becoming a sacrificial growth so I can work on...

Today's update photo's. This thing is growing like crazy. I look forward to finally getting more wire to try and start training the new limbs on this guy.. BTW, should I wait until few years down the road, or start getting them to have better movement right now? Thanks

Alright, so I was pretty sure that this was a crab apple of some sort before I saw that "Show Stopper" sale add when someone pointed out the "not crab apple" the guy is selling on ebay. Now I'm not so sure, I think it may be a crab apple, or a quince... Both are planted quite often around here...
