    Large bonsai pot. WIP

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted here but I’ve been very busy in the ceramic studio. Check out this bonsai pot I’m currently working on. I’m fairly sure it’s the wrong shape for it but I plan on putting a neat wisteria I collected in it. Let me know what you think.

    Faux Wood Planters

New ceramic faux wood boxes I made in the studio. This one is actually a drying rack for baby bottles but still functional as a planter. These last two are smaller and specifically made for orchids. Greenware. This clay body will be very dark brown, nearly black, when fired. They are...

    New tree collected

I think it's a red oak. Hopefully this one is big enough.

    Black clay, box pot

Here's an attempt at box shaped pot from a black clay body. This clay can be temperamental though (especially when glazed) and it has a small crack on the bottom, which makes it perfect for going into my personal garden. Points to anyone who can identify the flower.

    Put your bonsai on Instagram!!!

Anyone out there on Instagram? Instagram has a really poor pool of people who post bonsai content. What I have found so far are usually really good quality photos and trees but almost never credited or hashtaged. If anyone knows anyone to follow let me know.

    Another bonsai pot experiment

Here is an attempt at making a pot for bonsai. If we make more I'll probably glaze the whole thing instead of showing the clay at the bottom. Also, I glazed the inside which I probably shouldn't have done.

    Spiked flower pots

Things have been really really crazy for me for a while now and one of those things is that I think I've accidentally become a full time artist. Specifically a full time potters assistant. Anyway, I thought maybe I'd show you just a tiny bit of what we make. The big ones have drainage...

    Seeking advice for several trees

chinese tallow Gum or maple Maple Willow oak Unknown Chinese privet Here is the sum of my current tree collection. It is what is though. I'd like to know if I should cut back anything for winter. Also a bit of good news, I may be living in this house longer than previously...

    Strawberries

Something else I spied when moving into my home were these wild strawberries that are everywhere in the lawn. I decided to dig one up several months ago to see what would happen and I am very happy with the results. I started thinking it wold make a really nice accent plant for summer.

    Orange rust.

WTF is this stuff?! The Internets said it's rose rust. It started as an infection on the wild strawberries that are all over the yard but today I noticed it on my willow oak in the green house and my raspberry clear across the yard. All I have is nem oil and some systemic both are suppose...

    Another Chinese privet

So I recently collected a pretty small privet plant in my yard and it's doing really well so I thought I might try to gather a few more CAUSE THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!! There is one though that is particularly large that I'd like to hear thoughts on.... I brought a yard and a half stick this...

    Two new bonsai pots

Here are two new bonsai pots my fiancé just brought home. One issue that keeps popping up is that the pots like to bow during firing, so if anyone has any tips please share. I really love the glazes and while I prefer the shape of the first one, the second I think was the most successful and...

    How many insults?

So I have this bush in my new yard and I've decided to collect it. It's not great material I'm sure but it will give me something to play with. My first question is if I chop it to a stump can I also collect it too or is it much better to allow it to recover? I know there is the rule of one...

    new accent pot

I made this tiny little pot a long time ago and it just came back. I filled it with soil and added some moss "seeds". I really liked the results and thought I'd share. I think it will look even better if i can get the moss to spread, however I always do poorly with this type of moss so it may...

    Poisonous?

So I've spent about two week now pulling poison ivy out of my yard and while doing so I took notice of this tree in the back. I think it's poison sumac but I want to be sure before I kill the plant. Sorry to resort to this but I really need to know.

    Worth collecting?

Some trunks I've found. Descriptions at the bottom of each. I dunno what it is, refer to leaf litter in second image for a guess. It is badly reversed tapered, but it has a hole. Unsure of nebari. Also, no idea what it is. I'm not sure if they are both the same species or even the same tree...

How to make a finished bonsai in just a few hours

Sorry I couldn't help myself. Here's what I did make though for a morning glory project I want to try. It is meant to be a stoneware version of a bonsai that I want to grow morning glory up and around and make it appear to be a living tree. If it was a real tree though what would you think...

    Noob with a wisteria

Six years old. Grown from a seed. Should I make it a bonsai??? Just gonna keep this short and sweet and I'll answer any questions about them in the comments should anyone be interested. Also I have a mountain of questions of my own as usual. Anyway I don't wanna sound rude or lazy but...

    Sign posts

I made these tiny sign posts a really long time ago and finally got them back today. I sometimes see them in bonsai pots with Japanese writing on them and they are also in a Nintendo game called "Aminal crossing" in America. Plus look how cute they are! Anyway what are they? Or rather, what are...

    morning glory experiment

I really like accent plants a lot so I started off experimenting with a few morning glory and this one bloomed for the first time today. Not really sure what I'm doing but morning glory can do some really weird stuff and grow really aggressively so maybe I can figure out something cool...

    Quercus phellos development journal

This is my favorite tree. It is obviously very tiny still and will require a mountain of time and patience before it's even proper material to work with. Time I have plenty of, still working on patience. In the mean time I thought it would be real fun to make a journal of it's development. I...

    Pinus taeda

I live in Mississippi so I have loblolly pines everywhere, and I mean everywhere! Mostly I am interested in the seedlings which are all over my back yard year round. Unfortunately I know almost nothing about pines or evergreens. They don't have leaves, they don't drop their foliage in winter...

    Am I doing this right?

Hi. I'm new. I recently got this cute little boxwood for like 3 bucks at lowes and wanted to see if I've gotten any of this right so far. I've already chopped a few branches, divided it from what was an entirely separate plant ( so yay two for one), trimmed the roots very lightly and then...
