    Weekend at Bjorn’s

I would kill that tree if it was in my collection, no doubt 🤣. As for mine, your feedback is spot on. I need to get the rootball flatter…which I hope to do over time, as @Paradox mentioned.

    Weekend at Bjorn’s

Repotted the hinoki yesterday. Was still digging out dirt/soil from 5 years ago. It was a rather aggressive repot, fingers crossed it responds well. 🤞

    NN - 10 years challenge

    Repotted a few weeks ago.

    Weekend at Bjorn’s

It’s probably hard to tell, but the old pot was huge. Probably twice the size. The current pot is a great size (actually a touch too deep), just not the color or shape I’d like to see. The old pot was also super heavy. I can actually move the tree around now without breaking my back!

    Weekend at Bjorn’s

Repotted. I don’t love the pot choice, but I didn’t have anything else in that size. Oh well, now I can be on the lookout for something that will work better.

    One Last Visit To Eisei-en

A quick video of my recent visit to Eisei-en. Gonna miss Bjorn and his amazing garden 😢 https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0aq8S6NxmF/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Seedling mikawa yatsubusa in stock again at mr maple!

FWIW they are very open about it in their videos. I don’t get the sense they are trying to pull one over on us. I fully understand what I’m purchasing.

Seedling mikawa yatsubusa in stock again at mr maple!

Can confirm no grafts. Not sure if the Yatsubusa characteristics are strong with this one or not. Feels like the leaves and internodes could be smaller. But it’s young and obviously not received any training. For $40, I think it’s a good deal. Shipped very quickly and well boxed. Would...

A new monkey pole and a new home for this American hornbeam, which I quite like how it’s developing.

    The Shohin Tree Thread

I did a little work on this double trunk Shimpaku today.

Japanese Maple (Acer Palmatum) Air Layer + Ebihara Progression

Very nice. I assume the tree responded well this growing season. Any recent photos? I typically see the ebihara technique used in connection with a box. Any plans to use a larger / flatter container next repot?

    Shohin JBP Progression

Decandled this year. Pulled needles a few weeks ago. Detailed wired today. Progress.

    Dealing with social media

Idiots like that never bothered me. It’s the oddly toxic bonsai community that forced me to stop creating content.

Worked on my garden today. I added a pathway to the conifer garden. And added some places for more afternoon shade trees. My hinoki now greets visitors to the garden, which feels appropriate. (Also, I needed a better place for that tree, this will hopefully give it more balanced sunlight).

    Juniper From @Dav4

To the right is my intention. (I'd add Sergio's concept also shows it to the right). No doubt this tree needs more detail work. Bringing back into the studio brought that to my attention. But, as this tree has never been 100% healthy under my training, I'm anxious about doing too much, too...

    Juniper From @Dav4

Never too soon @snowman04 ! Although, not much has changed, but she is responding well and looking healthy! Looking forward to a good detail wiring, hopefully about year from now.

50 Year Old Scotts Pine From Roland Folse

One of the reasons I wanted to chat with Roland is that there appears to be a really organic material inside the rock. I was wondering if the organic material and the roots associated with that material might be getting too much water. Appreciate the resources and comments. And I appreciate...

50 Year Old Scotts Pine From Roland Folse

Interesting perspective. I’ll give that some thought. I got rid of the jins b/c they were overbearing in this final rendition. And I see this tree getting compact over time, which means new jins, ones that are closer to the final design will present themselves.

50 Year Old Scotts Pine From Roland Folse

Thanks! I really like the compactness of that 2022 photo. Hopefully I can get it back there soon.

50 Year Old Scotts Pine From Roland Folse

A few years back, @Deep Sea Diver shared a link to an inventory sale for the Pacific Bonsai Museum. (Link - https://www.bonsainut.com/threads/pacific-bonsai-museum-one-time-excess-inventory-sale-started-today.49846/) The PBM was selling off some trees, many from Roland Folse. I picked up...

Honored to have worked on that tree many times. Here it is after my intensive course way back in 2018. (I’m pictured bottom left) Take good care of it, it’s a special tree to many of us ;)

    A Japanese maple

Dave, I love this tree and thread, thanks for sharing. Do you know, or can you tell, how this trunk was developed? Are there scar marks at each bend? It’s a really beautiful trunk.
