    Dwarf Jasmin

Hi! Anyone tried grafting dwarf chirimen Jasmin onto normal size? What technique did you use? Scion and understock, or approach graft? I ask because I got my hands on some dwarf chirimen Jasmin… they are hard to find. In anticipation, I’d started propagating non dwarf (giant?) Jasmin last...

    Get Shorty

Hey guys - what type of dwarfs are you using for Bonsai? I’m looking at compiling a list of dwarfs / shortys to work with. Please add! Hokkaido elm Serissa Kingsville box Chojubai Bougainvillea smarty pants persimmon rhombifolia Millettia Callicarpa Ilex serrata

    Callicarpa

After some advice about spotting the difference between the two. I’ve got several which I suspect were mislabelled. From what I can tell Japonica has smaller internodes, berries that aren’t as long lived as the other and is berry slow growing. Buds are super small and leaves are a lighter shade...

    Thread Grafting - Apricot

Anyone tried this on an apricot? I have a fairly 2d mume / it has some latent buds on the backside I’m hoping can activate with sun, but to date no change. Is this doable? I find the wood of prunus so soft it rots easy and don’t want to risk drilling a hole if minimal chance of success

    Prunus kanzan

I stumbled across some flowering cherry I’m hoping I can take cuttings from. Does anyone have any success stories or advice? It seems the jury is out with softwood v. hardwood TIA

    Flowering apricot

For quite some time, I’ve kept an eye out for flowering apricot. Yesterday I found some bare rooted. Not bonsai. Nowhere near it. I’m surprised that more aren’t on the market. Are they difficult to cultivate? How do people go about propagating?

    Mugo pine seeds

I've sown quite a few mugo seeds last season. They have sprouted and seem to be growing albeit slowly. Does anyone have any tips about helping them along? They seem to all have one set of fine delicate needles.

Mugo Pine Bonsai - seasonal guide

Hi, I have read about Vance's and others Mugo pines with much interest, but am finding it difficult to find a seasonal guide to these trees. It seems that everything is detailed by "month" rather than season, mostly by forum users in the states. It's hard being in Australia to make sense of...

    Beech Help

Hi guys - Before you is a European beech. I was hoping for advice about the best way to proceed with it. I see a nice broom or informal upright style tree in there but it has some inverse taper just above the base. My question is about how best to develop nebari - whether I should try...

    Maple Dig

An opportunity to dig a Japanese maple has arisen. The tree is quite large and has been growing strongly for some time in a garden. I have no experiencing digging trees for Bonsai and wanted to know if the excercise is viable. I am planning on cutting the tree to a stump and manageable size...
