    Cypress advice please

Figured I’d update. I spun it 180 degrees, where it’ll sit for a another year and half. Will repot on its 10th collected year- Dec 2024.

    I guess I'll try a Wisteria...

Ran across this at the club auction last night. Price was right and I've wanted a wisteria, so what the hell- it's for the club right? I know, I know, pita bench hog for two weeks of bloom- if it blooms at all. But I have space in my yard for it. Tree has good nebari and trunk, which is what...

    How large before air layering?

So, I'm kinda thinking no guts no glory. I won't get greedy and will only try maybe three or four 3/4"ish branches. I can also wire and prune some areas that I can revisit in a couple/few years. Gonna wait til first push hardens off as suggested. Might as well try, nothing to lose really...

    How large before air layering?

Yes, thank you. I am active in the Koi scene and show circuit. This Showa always did well, including Young Champion and Mature Champion wins. Now just chills in the pond. :) I went to a Koi show in Atlanta in 2011 and this was in conjunction with Japanfest were I saw my first 'real' bonsai...

    How large before air layering?

Found a picture of them freshly planted in dec 2014. I had more, just glad I didn't kill em all. I'm warming up to maples... figure I should learn how to properly care for them before anything.

    Boxwood health question

A few weeks ago I saw some large boxwoods on the street and the owners were in the yard and said I could have them. They were about 36 hours dug, so the exterior roots were dry but the interior looked in decent health. Had adequate roots. Not being prepared nor having experience with boxwoods, I...

    How large before air layering?

I was fortunate to be given many Japanese maples about six years ago. I am more fortunate that I didn't kill them. I really hadn't an interest in maples so I just let them grow in a kiddie pool for about the last five years, kinda just whacking away at them with little knowledge on proper...

    Bald cypress collected!

A scrape- no, or probably not. I was just curious if when cutting, the tree fell and striped it away. If the living tissue is striped from top to bottom, than that MAY be a problem. I had a monster that when felled pulled a 8" long and 2" wide stripe away. That swath of the tree was injured and...

    Bald cypress collected!

They should be fine. Out of curiosity, the first pic left side looks like a strip of live tissue missing, is that correct?

Let's see those dwarf Alberta spruce jams

Well, been on here five years and never had an interest in DAS. Still don't. But, I haven't bought a nursery stock tree in a couple years, got a gift card to Lowes, what the hell, let's do it. Missed the Christmas tree grow out, but figured I'd throw my ring in the hat anyway. See how all you...

My approach is that each tree should be looked at individually and not as a 'one size fits all' generality, especially newly wild harvested trees. BC's can do just fine in damn near dry sand. Not saying that's prefered, but I certainly wouldn't say that they belong in pots with no drain holes...

Ah, someone knows Koi! Yes, Koi is my passion. I am still in the Koi and Koi Show circles, although I don't compete as much these days. That Showa I aquired as sansai, it won Young Champion a few timesas nisai and sansai, and Mature Champion at some point. More youthful days gone, he now resides...

Collected a decent tree, decent taper and buttress. Was in a sandy area, so it harvested well. The other tree has no taper, a very slight line, and looks like nothing. But that's why I'm excited about it, I'mm hoping to make it more of a formal tree with elegance and class. Sooo, for now they...
