I hear you on that...you know I like to enjoy my pots treeless on display. At least you're more likely than I am to have trees worthy of those pots. Love how the pic of the Tosho turned out, it looks incredible.
Thanks for documenting/sharing the trip to my place, not to mention the purchases. I was sad to see those go, especially the Kosen and Sharaku but I'm glad they went to you!
Another shot of my favorite Mino from that stack

And another shot of the Yamaaki Mushikui (2nd gen) at the bottom of the stack that you can't really see.

Nice! Make sure you keep me updated on what you do with it :)
On another note, where to begin with my pots. Here are a few.
My little collection of Mino Kenzan. The big ones are pretty rare. Two of the big ones are Sakufu ten memorial pots.

Do you use those sprayers Piñon? What type of soil do you use? I'm just worried that those sprayers will pattern and pass right through the inorganic soil creating dry spots but maybe the coverage is better than I imagine.
Thanks, that's another thread I read through a few times but I'm not confident those sprayers will work well for the soil I use. That's why I'm primarily looking for misting emitters. It looks like Scott uses a considerable amount of organics in his soil whereas most of mine have none. I will...
True, I have had pretty bad luck with people watching my plants in the past and that was far fewer in number than now, though they weren't bonsai people. Either way nobody loves our plants like we do.
Thank you Judy, yours is one of the threads I had looked at in trying to decide how to set this up. I really wish I had something overhead that I could run it all from as that would make it easier to decide. I really like your system. Can you provide a link to the mist emitters you use? Or do...
Seriously...vacations used to be so easy before bonsai. If I were smart I would be involved in a local club so I could enlist the help of a fellow enthusiast to check on them while I'm gone.
Anyone willing to share which misters (emitters) they're having success with? I've read some threads where the mist type emitters are recommended over drippers and sprayers with the inorganic rocky soil most of us use. But I haven't really seen anyone recommend a specific emitter. Here are a few...
Hey, that's my pot!! On its way to me now, should arrive soon. I have to say, I wasn't sure about the pot but it was just too strange to pass up, and now that I see the conversation going on about it here I'm glad I bought it. Here's the other side.
Also, to address your "how do I approach this" question, I think it's incredibly difficult to put styling advice into words. The pictures definitely help and some may be able to advise you you based off these but even pictures are of course two-dimensional and fall horribly short of conveying...
First, you need to study everything you can. I am still in this stage. I have many plants but all are just growing healthily while I ponder design ideas and read everything I can get my hands on. You can definitely jump right in and learn by trial and error, trying things people tell you and...
Read this article, especially towards the end where it gives some sound advice on overwintering in your fridge. This is from a very reputable and well regarded source.

Nice purchase Darlene. I'm a member of that FB group too .99 cent bonsai and have made a few purchases off there myself, mostly pots. Nathan was selling this one right? I definitely had my eye on it but ended up going with one from Jason Turner...he makes such cool little pots. Enjoy yours, I...
Cedrus deodara "aurea" is slower growing than the species so it's possible that the growth is smaller as well. Look up pictures and foliage close-ups to decipher what you have, or maybe post a pic here for some help or make a new thread asking the same question.

Quick and dirty virtual bringing down the "zig zag" branch in question (if possible, over time of course), also bringing down right side and removing lowest branches. Original on left side for comparison. Just for fun. Will probably benefit from a slight change in planting angle if done this...
