Is this fig tree worth 50 euros?

I hadn't heard of this before until a couple years ago when a friend was pruning theirs. She was working in the sun afterwards and got severe burns on her arms, chest, and face. A few weeks ago I was cleaning up some donkey tail spurge (euphorbia), got covered with the latex, and was wiping the...

Is this fig tree worth 50 euros?

All of what @vesper818 said, and at least in my area with our temperamental winters, they have a tendency to drop branches and sometimes die completely back to the root system, which can make designing difficult. I have been surprised though by how small the leaves can reduce.

Is this fig tree worth 50 euros?

Ficus carica, edible fig tree. These are rarely seen with respect to bonsai culture, and this one is definitely unique. May be worth that price, but also there's probably a reason these aren't used much for bonsai.

FreshAirSunshine's 2023-2026 ROR Contest Apple Submission

Probably woolly aphids, they're pretty easy to deal with. I think I can see the fuzz in your pic.

    ID this tree?

To me, it's looking kind of hibiscus like, like one of the herbaceous types. Are there any woody stems?

Can a weeping elm be defoliated?

@Maiden69 I have a bunch of different sizes growing and they are very vigorous and pretty bullet proof, but are definitely prone to bugs munching on the leaves, and a black spot fungus. I don't know anything about the weeping cultivar or if it is as vigorous as the species, but I bet your...

Starting My Poison Ivy Over Again

I did just read that the center leaflet is longer than the other two on poison ivy and yours does appear to be shorter, so I see what you're saying with your example. I'm still leaning towards poison ivy though. The leaf margins are still going to be confusing to distinguish until the new...

    Red Clumps of bugs???

Hasn't happened to me luckily, but the adults can pack a vicious bite (or really a vicious stab)!

    Red Clumps of bugs???

Not aphids, they're assassin bug nymphs. Beneficial garden insects.

    Species Suitable for Air Layer

Probably the majority of woody trees can be air layered. It might be easier to make a list of the ones that are very reluctant or impossible. From my experience: Acer truncatum, Shantung Maple. Had callusing for two years, but no roots. The top eventually died. After looking up this species in...

    What's wrong with this Amur?

Just checking, I've had weird chlorotic issues with amurs after using that product.

    What's wrong with this Amur?

Did you by any chance use superthrive while repotting this tree?

Starting My Poison Ivy Over Again

Hard to tell from your first pic, but this plant looks to have an alternate leaf arrangement. Maples are opposite. I think you do have poison ivy. Also I remembered hearing Acer griseum's seeds are supposedly sterile, so chances may be slim it's a volunteer from one.

    Black thumb with cuttings

@Mad Tabby Do you have a list of species you're curious about? I have to go to one of the nurseries this evening, and I'll see if I can find the book and get some info for you if you'd like.

    Black thumb with cuttings

Both of my jobs had a copy, I don't own one either  My old boss would get pissed when he saw me wandering around nursery with that book and a customer... I know some people here have some copies, maybe they'd graciously take a picture of the page or relate the info back to you if you...

    Black thumb with cuttings

@Mad Tabby I used to have the same problems with cuttings never taking, no matter how careful or attentive I was; indoors under lights, outside, different soil types, humidity dome or not, didn't matter because they would never take... But I realized my timing was off. I would usually try to...

    First air layer attempt

You'll probably have to cut a few holes somewhere up top to get whatever watering device you use in there. Also, cut some holes in the bottom of the bag so it can drain if you haven't yet. Technically it doesn't need to be wet until roots form, but I too keep my layers saturated the whole time.

    Field Maple Progression

It really needed a repot this year, but I missed that window:confused: it escaped it's pot and is probably 8 feet tall at the moment... May try for an air layer off the top, or I might just hack it back in the summer, not really sure yet. And root cuttings definitely take on these, I have...

How would you handle this beech chop?

I say wait another year at least. Think about what that cranking on the trunk will do to the roots while you're sawing it. I would be hesitant, a little over a year post collection, to do that on a somewhat temperamental species. There's always time to rework the chop when the tree is a little...

And how sure are you that this is a volunteer? I may see a graft on this tree, in the 4th and 5th pictures right below the bifurcation of the trunks.

    Flowering Cherry I.D.

The species could be yeodensis (speciosa X pendula), or subhirtella (itosakura X incisa) or it could be serrulata. Cherries can and will hybridize. Since they are single white(ish) flowers, and some exhibit the weeping habit, they could be of the yeodensis type. These are the types I see mostly...

What Could It Be? No ID!

I've used imidacloprid successfully to treat for borers after seeing similar damage. Things might be early enough to still save the tree. What is the condition of the tree? May be too soon to throw in the towel.
