I just acquired an old pot by Pine Garden Pottery in Arlington, WA. Anyone familiar with Max Braverman? It was gifted to me so I have no idea of the value, but it's a very nice pot.

    Santolina

While cruising a nursery in search of little plants to use in a rock planting I came upon something I'd not seen before and I thought it would be an interesting addition. It's a Santolina "Little Ness". Looking into it I discovered it is a dwarf variety of chamaecyparis. Drought resistant and...

    Wi-Fi router: Mauma by Ryoko

Has anyone bought this product? I did and I can't get it to function and I'm about to send it back. I bought it because I really need something to enhance my cell signal. It claims to create a WiFi hotspot in the most remote location, but reviews say it works best in urban areas where you...

    Second flush on European Beech

I'm getting a really nice second flush on my European Beech and a lot of backbudding on the branches and trunk. Do you let this flush run the rest of the season or pinch them back to the first set of leaves?

    Scale on J H Elm

I've been battling scale on my J. Hillier elm for three years now. I keep it in check with alcohol and a small brush and the tree is doing okay with daily seek and kill treatment. I'd like a systemic that doesn't set off an ecological disaster or trip anyones sensitivity.

    Cascade Bonsai Society meets

The Cascade Bonsai Society in S. Oregon met for the first time in over a year, since February of last year. A great turnout of almost thirty members and many brought trees to show and discuss the work we've been doing. A great time was had by one and all. Discussions ran from moss cultivation...

In A Galaxy Fir Fir Away

I have a few Doug fir projects in the works. One is a forest planting of small firs collected over the past few years from seedlings sprouted in my grow boxes. They were allowed to grow until that tree was repotted and then they were sorted out and put into their own pots. I now have about 15 of...

    Still safe in Oregon?

With winds of 25mph plus wildfires are erupting all around us. The closest at last report was about thirty miles away. The air is full of smoke and ash. Keeping a close eye on the evacuation alerts for the surrounding area. This is absolutely devistating! They're doing all they can, but it's...

    Acer campestre diversity

I have three Acer campestre and each one is unique. Two have very dark green leaves, but on one the new shoots are bronzy and quickly turn green. The other the new shoots are bright red and pursistantly red until they're quite big and then they turn green. I'm getting some root suckers off of...

    Japanese Maple Genetics?

I have a question for the science geeks here. First, what I've always thought, basically was that when a grafted cultivar produces seed the ensuing seedlings would share the genetics of the cultivar and whatever rootstock it was grafted to. I thought this was what I was seeing in collected...

    Sargenti Cypress ala Redwood

Here's my biggest bonsai. This is a Sargenti Cypress I'm styling as a Gaint Redwood. She stands four feet tall and three and a half feet wide. This is right after repotting. There's a small bonus White Oak growing on the backside that sprouted up while the tree was in the grow box.

    Scleranthus biflorus

Aka Australian astroturf. I have been growing this for several years now both as a ground cover and accent plant in small pots. It looks like moss, but it has roots and stays green all year. It's the best alternative to moss I've seen yet. I'm sorry I can't get pics to load this morning, but was...

    Ants in your plants?

I have been working closely with the trees, repotting ect, couple of weeks now, every day eyes on hands on. Maples are just leafing out now and now is when the aphids strike. You can't see the little buggers until you have a mass infestation, but, you can see the ants that are harvesting the...

    Maple flowers

I don't know if you have ever had your maples flower, but this Makawa yatsabusha makes a regular habit of it. It will make seed too, but I have never grown any before. Thinking of sprouting a bunch this year, like I need more Japanese Maples, just to see what comes of it.
