I've bought three from Mark and they are top quality. I'd highly suggest going to him. You won't be disappointed and they will last a couple lifetimes.

Akadama users: if akadama becomes unavailable?

So I switched to the kotobuki brand just this fall. I can't tell you yet how it will handle our cold but it does seem harder than the other brands ice used in the past.

    Source for lava-east coasters

Thanks. Yamadori stock is sort of low right now. It'll go back up this spring.

    Source for lava-east coasters

It's not a 5lb bag, but it's also not a bulk amount. I sell lava by the large flat rate box. It's about 25lbs a box (3.5 gallons). It's been presifted and is ready to use. www.summitbonsai.com

    Tried Aspen?

I've collected a few more now with mixed success. The key is finding them on their own roots.

Trying any new substrates next year?

It is supposed to break down. There are also different hardness that will make it last longer.

Trying any new substrates next year?

To be perfectly honest you'd be better off, and your trees too, to use a base of boons mix them amend from there. I used to use turface as well. I only had a few trees that stop taking on water. My trees were doing ok, but they grow so much better in a mix with akadama.

    Pumice

Hi rkatzin, I sell a large flat rate box of pumice for 32 shipped. It's approximately 3.5 gallons. I've weighed several boxes and they average right around 25lbs give or take a few pounds. All of my soil is hand sifted so there is minimal fines left for the user. A good watering will take care...

    Summit Bonsai

It's been a while since I've been on the forum, so I thought I'd reintroduce myself to the group. I've been spending most my time in the Facebook realm of bonsai for the couple of years. During this time I've started up a business called Summit Bonsai. If you all need quality pre-sifted soil...

Great looking pot Mach. Roy really knocked it out of the park with that one. I love the glaze.

    Siberian elm #2

Update. It's amazing what a few years will do to a tree. I decided to add another twin trunk tree and create a forest. A few adjustments here and there and this is where it's at. Current plan: build ramification on the right tree

    JAPANESE MAPLES FOR SALE!

I'll echo the same sentiments. Great trees Sergio, these should sell really well on Facebook auctions https://www.facebook.com/groups/bonsai.sales/ Wish I had the cash, I'd help lighten that load.

Best deal on the internet for graded pumice?

Yes, that's where we get ours. Get the 3/8" × #8" washed if you order from them. Our last order I made a mistake and just got the 3/8" minus and it was a lot of fines

Best deal on the internet for graded pumice?

We sell large flat rate boxes of pumice and lava. The lava is typically very clean. The pumice semis to stay a little more dusty even though everything is hand sifted. We sell both for $29.95 shipped. The large flat rate box is about 3.4 to 3.5 gallons or approximately 20lbs. Those that have...

    Japanese maple [#01]

Great tree as always Sergio. As far as the pot is concerned, I am a huge fan of yamafusa, but with that said that shuho will be outstanding.

    UME

Here you go. I got this tree last summer so this is the first time I'm seeing it bloom. It's an awesome reminder that spring will come. We have had a lot of snow this year and I'm tired of seeing white.

    Holy crap my wife's pregnant!

A parenting class is what got me into bonsai. The speaker compared raise a child to growing a bonsai. You have a plan in mind for the child, and you guide them and raise them along that vision. Four kids later, I'll tell you that the analogy works to some degree. Don't worry you'll be fine. It...
