    Blue Atlas Cedar

Thanks Judy for all your recommedations. I do have a couple of heat mats. If I keep it in a unheated garage and place the mats underneath the tree, won't it dry out the roots?

    Blue Atlas Cedar

Hi Judy Any ideas on how to winterize my BAC? I purchased it in May and did a lot of work to it as far as wiring and pruning. I may pot it next spring if it survives our zone 5 winter. Any thought or ideas?

Now that I take a closer look at it, I do see the graft line. It really makes no difference to me.

Fuzzy white stuff on my tree

I'll try to get a picture if they reappear. I sprayed the tree with a fungicide. I believe is a fungus. I just hope my other trees are not infected. This was a tree I bought from someone online and it came with this white fuzzy stuff on the trunk and branches and even in the soil. There're...

Fuzzy white stuff on my tree

Does any one know what the fuzzy white stuff is on my tree? I looked it up and it says that it might be a fungal infection or maybe eggs.... How do I treat this or it is too late for the tree?

    Basic Air Layering Q

I have a twin trunk Hornbeam I'm planning on layering next year. I'm planning on layering one trunk as a shohin and chopping the rest off making the tree a single trunk. I dont like it the way it is now and dont think it has as good a future with two trunks. Check out this shohin sumo style KH...

    Basic Air Layering Q

Hey fore, Congratulations on your air layers. Do you have any picture to show? I recently purchased a korean hornbeam tree that I was planning to air layer in early spring 2012. The tree is about 8' tall. I don't know that I want to try this for the first time on a KH. I may just leave...

    Cocoa Shell & Diatomaceous earth

I've used cocoa shell in my garden beds. They have a nice chocolate smell for a couple of days. When it gets wet sometime it gets compacted and something like a fungus gets attached to the big clumps. I wouldn't recommended for Bonsai use. It's more like a mulch.

Pyracantha bonsai care for zone 5a?

Thanks for responding Mike423 and for the article. It was very informative. I guess I can keep it in the garage when the temperature drops below freezing. My detached garage usually stays a few degrees warmer than the outside in winter. The garage has a south window where it can capture some...

Pyracantha bonsai care for zone 5a?

Does anyone live in zone 5a and have a pyracantha? I found one tree that I like a local nursery but I'm not sure about how to care for it in the winter since it's an evergreen. I don't see how it will survive a Chicago winter. I'm getting a lot of conflicting information about it.

    Flowering Desert Rose, Adenium obesum

DannyBonsai: Yes, they're not ideal for manipulating like other trees. Having said that, it doesn't mean that you can't shape them. I saw this one at the home depot about 4 years ago and thought it had some potential. I started shaping it to a bonsai style since, which meant I had to...
