    Cherry

Since I posted my cherry, my other flowering tree felt left out. It is a crabapple purchased from a regular nursery in 2004. (Again I don't know the variety). It was probably available because of the bend in the trunk. It flowers vigorously every year at about this time. I have another...

    Cherry

Because it blooms so early, hardly anyone ever sees it. So, thanks for the 'likes'.

    Cherry

I knew the variety back when they were purchased but I didn't write it down anywhere. (Lesson learned) It was in an oversized plastic "grow" pot for two years. It has been in the pot pictured ever since.

    Cherry

About a decade ago my club bought a dozen flowering cherry seedlings from Bill V. I took one and in just a few years it stated flowering as advertised. The only problem is that it breaks bud too early. It often starts flowering before I get it out of winter storage. So this year I took a...

How Do You Feel About Weeping Willow Bonsai?

I would just add to what Forsoothe said that they root very easily and quickly from almost any size cutting and they bud back prolifically. Find an interesting branch, trim it heavily and put it in a bucket of water for a month or two. You can save time and money.

Pricing Bonsai- how are prices determined?

My bonsai buddy was asked at a show a while back how much he wanted for his tree. He said simply "Not for sale." She said, "Oh come on now. Everything has a price." He said. "I found this tree and I collected it over 15 years ago. I have devotedly cared for it ever since to make it what...

    Video: Seasons by Walter Pall

I can't remember a video I enjoyed more! And thank you for the dedication. The serenity that video has provided is appreciated..

Is everyone getting annoying ads with every post or do I have a virus? How do you get rid of them with out closing each individually?

Yamadori. Does size have anything to do with survival in a pot?

I collected the vast majority of my trees - lots of different species and sizes. In my experience, survival has more to do with season than size but size does matter, A seedling collected in early spring is almost indestructible where as a large oak collected in the heat of summer is almost...

Atlas Cedar... with apex moving away!!!

Why not have it both ways? I had a tree that I showed one way when that appealed to me and the other when I liked that better. All it takes is rotating the pot!

Two kinds of bonsai attitudes: Realists verses Traditionalists, or the Good Guys verses...

I don't believe my post disrespected Adair whose work I do respect. As you say, these forum are created for questioning which is just what I did.

Two kinds of bonsai attitudes: Realists verses Traditionalists, or the Good Guys verses...

Your questioning of Forsoothe’s motives as you do seems gratuitous. Why not just take his statements at face value and express your opinion. One might be tempted to turn it around and ask what was your purpose in your post? Are you just trying to denigrate Forsoothe because you have no answer to...

    Willow cuttings

Just like Woocash says, put them in a bucket of water until next spring. Leave it out and it will freeze solid which does no harm. I've done that in Northern Michigan twice.

    Crazy Collected Thuja

A nice tree for sure. The movement is to the left and to me the thing (root? branch?) at the bottom right is disconcerting. The problem is I almost always find a tree looks better in real life than in a picture. That makes your perspective best.

    White Cedar tweaks

Jin and separating the pads a bit and it is better than ever. Pot gets no respect but I like it.

    Apple bark

Here is an update. First picture is how it looks now. In the next picture, if you look closely, you can see some of the new shoots that have sprouted from old wood. They are all over the tree. Strange?

SI have decided to go back into bonsaiNut seclusion.ee ya guys.

I haven't paid much attention to this thread because it isn't the kind of thing that appeals to me. But I have paid enough attention to this site to know that there are way more than ten folks here who have show worthy trees.

    Balancing the Journey and Destination

The great majority of my trees were collected at little or no cost. That usually means more time will be needed but more satisfaction with the result is also possible. There are usually a number of ways to proceed. We each find the way that suits us individually.

    Balancing the Journey and Destination

When I first joined my club, one of the founding members said something to the effect, "If you don't enjoy the process. don't bother. Bonsai is probably not for you." If you relish the process, good trees will eventually result. That is a win win. So, as has been suggested, aquire a number...

What works best for club fundraising in your experience!

It is not something that can be duplicated but a few years ago we had a club member who loved to collect. He planned trips and scouted out places to go all the time. He was as avid as the deer hunters around here and he was good at it. The thing is, he didn't like working on trees, so he...

    Apple bark

Yes. I did let it grow out one year to see if it would bloom the next. It didn't. I usually do prune it back in the fall though. Maybe this year would be a good time to just let it be.

Actually that is my only disapointment with the tree. It has never bloomed for me.

    Apple bark

This is an apple tree collected in Northern Michigan in2008. There were no other apple trees nearby and I have no idea what variety it is. It responded well to all the usual techniques. Then, last spring I noticed that the bark, especially on the smaller branches, was getting all wrinkly and...
