Nice! Is middle Sweden by chance somewhere around Norrköping? I saw a bunch of sweet yamadori when on vacation over there a couple of years ago.

Especially #4 and the one above it are nice.

I just finished working my Ashe Juniper. It is the only one I kept and probably the oldest collected tree (2009) I have. The more I learned about yamadori and bonsai, the more I sell the trees I started with. However, this one has been a learning tree. Ashe don't like to lose more than 30% of their foliage. They revert to juvenile foliage. This tree is maybe 20% and therefore I pushed it to the blink of death several times. Now I know so I'm more careful. I worked this tree with Owen in June 2015 and then recently, Owen gave me guidance through an online consultation. The tree is still a little too foliage heavy but I need to be extra careful and slowly get the foliage where I want it.

Nice material. When are you planing to do something with them? I hope you will share the experience with us.
I just stated to work on the hemlock in picture #2. I’ll start work on the other 2 in a few weeks or when ever I get my new greenhouse done. I have not be able to do much work on them due to health issues the past few years. I’ll post more about them soon.

Nice! I’m not familiar with Ashe juniper. Is the foliage floppy? Or does it grow upwards?

The reason I ask is I see a lot of “hanging foliage”. That is foliage and little branches growing downwards. Usually, Junipers have woody understructures to their pads, and all the foliage is on top.

If Ashe has a different manner of growing, that might be difficult to achieve.

Utah Juniper, collected over 20 years ago. Put in a box at collection, and pretty much neglected until August 2017. Tree was delivered to Boon’s garden in August, and the old box fell apart. So, potted in this container:

Boon placed a root graft and some Kishu grafts 20 years ago right after collection. Tree had been left unattended until the potting in August. In November 2017, five new Kishu approach grafts were placed on the single lifeline. The old Kishu graft was retained, and cut back.
