Thanks Lance, sound advice.

Sorry folks, just felt "at the bottom of my shoes" as we say here.

Sorry for those who care for me, and others, although we don't know each other, I know some people care, and that feels good, sorry for making them worry about that fucking liberal atheist froggie.

I feel much better today. Ity was sunny and it was our first Sunday in our new room for sunday workshops. Friendly people, nice trees.

Powerpoint presentation for the beginners:

A Larch forest, by Francis, the founder of our club, in his late 70s, a former army high-rank officer (he's got a photo of him standing beside Khadaffi on the steps of the French embassy in Lybia). He's got a pacemaker in his chest now, and he's one of the sweetest person I know. He reminds me of my late father...

A little cotoneaster of mine, it's great to be able to take pictures outside...

17-09_Martinets06.jpg

... and many trees inside, I couldn't take pictures of them all because I had papers to mark so I left before 13:00

Don't worry. I still have this cultural, atavic, and maybe genetic tendency to be be over-sensitive, to be over-happy or over-sad.

Thanks for the private messages: went to see a doctor, the first time in 2 years. He checked my heart and asked me "You're doing sport, don't you?"

When I told him I've smoked about 30 cigarettes a day for decades, he made me a prespription for a cardiologist and a scan of my lungs...

Think I'll switch to e-cigs before.

Don't worry kids, I'm all right and living in Orléans ;)

I'm going to France one day...

If ever you cross the Atlantic, be sure you'll get a place to stay as long as you want - and I'm a very good cook too.

You know, I'm sure that even if Vance came, I'm sure we'd have a hell of a good time together !!! :D:D:D

The color this year is fantastic, just different...

Thanks, glad you like it but it shows it suffered this summer. It needs repotting so the roots can cope with heat and drought which is totally contrary to the original growth range of J. maples...

I already changed my "USDA zone" in my profile from 8b to 9a two years ago. With the climate change which is definitely not "fake news", I think I'll also have to change my soil mix, adding more organic soil that can keep moisture in the hottest months.

It’s a beautiful little tree, but more importantly in reading through this thread I’m glad you are still with us and worked through your dark moments.

through your dark moments.

"Every cloud has a silver lining"

I just can't believe I'm still alive - tobacco, alcohol, drugs (not now, except good weed), political dead-ends, a lot of meat, grilled on barbecue, etc. Sixty-five, still alive while a lot of my friends are long gone...

I'll roll another one.

Glad you are feeling more yourself Alain. i think we are very much alike, from our core beliefs and concerns down to our style of bonsai and ideals of beauty, if I can be so presumptuous as to think I know you. These are not the best of times for us.

Thanks everyone, it feels good seeing that you like it. 😘

Actually, some weeks ago, I was thinking of getting rid of most of my trees, just keeping this one, a ginkgo and two or three others.

Now, if I do it will be because I feel like starting new ones, the "old ones" can take a new life, if not a better life, a different path, make other people happy.

It's got a wider pot now.

The roots were so crammed in the pot that I removed the tree from the pot and let them soak overnight, but the roots tonight were as tight and the rootball as hard as concrete so I used the hose just before night.

I had another pot, slightly bigger, from Erin Pottery too. Roughfly : 60% akadama, 25 % pozzolan and 15% composted pine bark.

I'll put it in a tray with water to the rim, spiced with "natural" hormones.

PS: when I watch the photos, it can still be slightly tilted to the left (because of the weight of the lava rock, I didn't use wires to secure the tree into the pot).
