Where I will be soon moving is in the borough of Oxford. From all I have researched, they only use chlorine for water treatment.Although some is from treated top of lake water? Along with well water.
I bought a couple water tight half wine barrels to let water air out a bit.Naka's technique 1 comes to mind, which is why I dumped money on the barrels.Plus it looks neater.
Now that I have my own place I want take my time creating my grow area.I have a nice idea for a grow table, first of all, that I got from looking at the wooden benches at White Clay Creek Park.

Here are my barrel and new sunny spot to grow bonsai.

For a start, going to grow out Chinese elm and zelkova in plastic bulb pans for a couple years,Wire shape the trunk lines and prune roots early a couple times during first season.
Will build a somewhat deep wooden cold frame for winter storage in the shade of the back of the home.Or just bury rootballs in the ground every winter, for the whips.
A production line of small bonsai is the only thing that comes to mind right now.Have not bought a tree .......yet.

And speaking of putting whips in the ground ,why not a nice ground grow area for planting cuttings and making air layers and the like.If you got them use them:D

Looks like a right proper broom factory!

Matter of fact....

You should name your garden the Broom Factory!

Got my half barrels last Thursday.I filled them with water to keep them hydrated. They will dry out and leak if not kept humid.
On my back porch for now until I get moved into the new place, which cannot happen soon enough:confused:
Cannot wait to get my trees growing.Should be ready to plant seeds in a few weeks.A month late, really.

I am not really feeling it with making brooms right now.I want to create branches.I am going to wire the trunks and try to get to grow real fast to like 1.5" trunks before I even think of doing things with them.Except for first year uprooting a few times to develop some good roots from the start.
I am having visions of 6' tall, low wired whips staked up in fenced in landscape flats growing in bulb pans.

I did not put 1+1 together and thought you where going to put trees IN the barrels!

Speaking of branches. Is that a bigass fallen branch straddling a live branch?

I wished I had a yard that size

Why not buy rain barrels and capture rain off the roof? No chlorine in that stuff.

That is a great idea jquast.
The downspouts are planned to run into storm water drainage area on the property. The borough requires this.
I will have to look into it to see my options.

Really want to get growing at the new home.Waiting for seeds to stratify another few weeks.
Kinda' bored,so I made a quick sketch of what I have planned for the trees.

-Grow in 8"-10" low bulb pans.
-First growing season I will probably uproot at least once to make sure roots are radial.
-Wire and contort into interesting shapes.
-Grow sacrifice leaders as fast as possible( in bulb pans) extremely tall so trunk is at least 1.5"-2" thick before I start fiddling with some of them.

I will make batches of these to satisfy my needs to put something in a pot,but there will be some that keep getting bigger in bulb pans that are left to grow and develop.
Chinese elm and zelkova.
I am anticipating 8' or taller sacrifice leaders.Heavy ,heavy feeding.

@Eddy Yup My first ever ebay purchase for anything
I think it was a good buy. The tree has a nice taper, good branches and decent ramification. All it needs is some leaf reduction techniques done to it.
