I've purchased young trees off the web from Brent, and have been very happy with the trees and the service. I've also been very impressed with his incredible blog and with all the marvelously helpful posts he offered at BS while I was active there.

I also had the good fortune to go down for a short visit to EG this past spring to offer some volunteer work after being inspired by his AoB interview, and it was a great pleasure to get to meet Brent and Susan, get to view his impressive operation and help out a small bit, and get to buy some of his older/larger trees.

I would recommend doing business with Brent to anyone without any reservation. A great guy with a great wealth of knowledge and experience, selling great merchandise - it just doesn't get any better than that!

You may get disappointed by the postal system but Brent is pure gold.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you buy? Is it a little tree in a 4 inch pot, or a larger specimen?

The reason I ask, is that there are practically no larger specimen listed on his site. Maybe 3 or four - tops.

Send an email to brent and tell him what you are looking for. He's very helpful and has quite a bit of inventory he does not post.

I just received my first EG order today! I ordered six trees and six healthy, humongous trees came in! They were all 2 3/4 in pots but were very large nontheless.

I highly recommend this place to anyone (I know that this has been said over and over again).

Brent has a huge amount of large, high quality stock as well. No matter what level of experience you have, or what you're looking for, it's worth a call or email to see what he has available.

Cheers

I did not want to post this review in the "Then and Now" thread for this vendor since I just recieved the trees in question.

I ordered a one gallon Japanese Beech and two other small deciduous saplings late last week. My order shipped Monday, arrived two days later and was packed extremely carefully.

The Japanese Beech so exceeds my expectations as it has clearly been well grown with a future as a bonsai in mind. The tree(though dormant) is clearly very healthy and the trunk has excellent movement.20170125_233114.jpg
I am trying to decide whether to order six more Fagus crenata for a forest or if I should grow this one out a bit and begin training it at the same time as a single specimen. Thank you Brent!

Not sure who you're asking but Brent is not on the Nut (I've never seen him here anyway). Evergreen Garden Works always gets outstanding reviews with the exception that it takes a while for new material to get posted on the website. Anyway, if you're asking whether you should grow out the Fagus you have or make a forest then only you can answer that. @JudyB and @Don Blackmond are both Beechers. Maybe they can offer some additional insight.

Also, that tree you have wired in the background looks like it's wrapped in a Slinky. The closer the coils are together the less "holding power" the wire has. What is the wire on that lone branch for? It looks like an outstanding tree.

Brent has an account here, and was fairly active in the past, though he hasn't visited much recently. I have purchased trees from him in the past and he's a straight shooter.

I did a little checking and the last time he posted was September 2014. That's about the time we had a rash of useless bickering and lost many great members that contributed immensely to the forum. Maybe we'll see him here again one day...

Thread reminded me of a tree Brent has posted referring to the nuthouse:

"
50-107 Juniperus chinensis 'Shimpaku' . Caliper is 1 3/4 inches. This is my oldest Shimpaku. I purchased it as a 5 year old one gallon tree in 1982. It has always been in small pots and was unhealthy for many years, creating a lot of jins and shari. It has massive water lines now creating rollover. It's now a very healthy tall feminine tree. Use the 15 inch pot as a size reference. Those who follow BonsaiNut forum may recall seeing its sister tree owned by Brian Van Fleet which was grown to be a massive tree with a 4 inch caliper. Hard to believe they were once identical.

I will consider checking with the mentioned forum members. I have long wanted a Japanese Beech forest but have seen some outstanding individual trunk bonsai as well. I may go with the individual trunk idea for cost reasons alone. At least now I finally have a Japanese Beech!

Though the "bark" on the young rough bark trident sapling is not fully rough yet(this takes several years according to Brent) I can already tell it has a rougher, "corkier" appearance than a typical trident of the same age.

The tree in the background with the funky wiring on the "apex" is my favorite tree and biggest purchase ever, that I acquired in February 2016. I soon realized that it needed a chop and rebuild above the first few branches. Through much discussion about and advice from fellow forum members, I have decided to chop the tree even lower to a shoot in a perfect position to be the new apex. It was determined that it be best to leave the current apical growth on to balance out growth of the eventual new apex so the internode length stays short. The complete BN progression thread on my trident can be found here:

http://www.bonsainut.com/threads/advice-and-opinions-on-new-trident-maple-purchase.22072/

I have really high hopes for this tree in the future even though to make it an excellent 10-15" bonsai will take a number of years and quite a bit of skill applied to each step. The base/nebari alone are worth what I paid in my opinion.

I ordered a Toyo Nishiki Improved, and Brent e-mailed that he couldn't ship until they bloomed, to make sure they had all three color blooms, or at least two. I was disappointed, because I wanted to see it bloom and was anxious to get it. BUT, I think that attention to making sure a customer gets what they want, is admirable.

@Carol 83 , Rest assured. I don't think you will find a better, more honest grower online and all-round great human such as @Brent @ EvergreenGardenworks

Bump for Brent. Solid new rare pines on his website... http://www.evergreengardenworks.com/specimen.htm
Wow. Those are niceee. Very well priced IMO especially for the species. Too bad I don’t know my way around pines. I really wanted a nice crab that he had on his site too but they all sold quickly, or at least by the time I saw it
