I wanted to share this boxwood with you all, for three reasons. First, because it's one of only a couple of trees that I didn't kill during my first attempt to learn how to grow bonsai trees in the 80s and 90s. Second, because it's a good example of what radical work can do in a few years. Three, because I just like it

It's my only tree that has a name. My daughters nicknamed this tree "Meelo", after a cartoon character who tells people to "be the leaf". Because for a while there, a leaf was all this tree had.

It's not done, by any measure, but it's come a long way since 2013 when I pulled it from the ground after 14 years or so of being a "former bonsai" hedge plant.

Neat. When someone asks how you define patience, just show them these pics.

The drawing was made by Uyen Truong. The original decision to scrap all the branches was done by Roy Nagatoshi at a Kofu Kai tree critique.

Very cool, love these types of progressions. Quick question..., the drawing (which is also very cool) shows what appears to be taller, slender vision for the tree, utilizing one strong branch. The final picture looks slightly different (not bad, by the way, just different). It appears that you've incorporated two strong trunks instead of the one. I'm wondering if you've changed your vision for the tree, or if it's just part of the process.
