I had to cut back the negundo, they just had so much foliage that everyday around noon they would get droopy from the heat even thought they are moist and under shade net.20160607_131243.jpg 20160607_131259.jpg

Another pruning down.20160710_084226.jpg
I've also been noticing since I've been using fertilizer cakes that I have these 2 weird bugs in my soil. Should I be worried? I could always use a good systemic.20160710_085121.jpg

No clue what happened but about 2 weeks ago I was watering and noticed the top of this tree snapped. I left it alone and this morning noticed the bark went black! I went ahead and grabbed the saw and know cutters and took it down to the branch shown. Quite a big change but I'll make it work, now it's shohin size!20160803_064121.jpg
I'll need to cut the lowest branch back to the first node to star bringing it more into proportion but I'll let it thicken for the time being.

Did you remove the leaves manually? I still don't know too much about defoliating right before the dormant season.

I generally do once they pass peak color, I do that with most of the deciduous. Just shake the tree a bit and pluck off the stragglers lol

Here's an update on the last negundo20161106_122947.jpg 20161124_065921.jpg
And the big tooth
This guy I've been leaving exposed and it didn't get the chance to change before being hit with a hard freeze.20161124_065716.jpg 20161124_065724.jpg
It was gonna be a nice red just like the big ones where it came from.
This guy was put into the tree house before the freezes could ruin the color.20161124_065800.jpg
A nice yellow coming on20161124_065818.jpg

The little guy finally peaked this weekend20161204_144334.jpg 20161204_144425.jpg
I also learned from my teacher who has quite a few of these, that they are a single flush maple so they take a while to develop. That's fine with me, they are some beautiful trees.
Here's some pictures taken from google, of the area I collected these. I missed it this year:(:mad:DSCN2555.jpg Fourth_of_July.jpg
Very beautiful place year round, and not as well known as it probably should be.
I'll be back next year;)

I just love seeing baby leaves poke out!20170315_182531.jpg 20170315_182536.jpg
Hopefully being in this pot will help me reduce the foliage and internode length in the long run.

It looks like you are growing the next section of the trunk... if so, this should be in a larger growing pot/box or ground.
