thanks, I always thought that stuff was yellow.

It is yellow in the bottle. It then goes grey and then white if applied neat. It can be toned down from bright white using a variety of things as a mixer like indian ink, ash and tea leaves.

Jason, as with all trees. Just the contrary of what they tell you. Let grow freely very long. Then cut back ruthlessly. The tree will respond with lots of buds. It's called the hedge cutting method. All hedges are developed by it. And my bonsai. Ever wondered about the great ramification of hedges?
Is that what you do for the first thicker part and then start shortening times and the length you let it extend to create taper in the branches?

The overwhelming number of trees is repotted too early. Now, when then foliage is just out is is late, but not too late. This is better than too early. I do this every year. You should not think that I am an idiot who cannot wait a few months and kills a ten grand tree. I have done this hundreds of times.

If I thought you were an idiot (as you say) I would have never asked for your advise now would I :)

I have read every single one of your posts on your blog and I tend to do as you say

BTW, now that you mention it, I do remember an article when you wrote that better repot late than early,

Thanks a lot for the reply it is always great to get tips from you

Regards,

Seven weeks after the foliage appeared the tree was cut drastically on the upper part. The lowest branches were left as they are to strenghten them.

The response should be interesting - lots of strong back budding. This is the thing you never see in books, articles or in the vast majority of bonsai photos online - the tolerance of an 'impefect' bush to get to a 'finished' image much quicker. Many beginners (myself included) don't allow their trees to grow vigourously enough.

Walter! Great tree! You did a great job with the new angle and great pot choice! If we were in the same country you'd have to hide this from me lol!
