Do you have plans to improve your Bonsai Garden (display area) in 2018?

I plan redoing my entire back yard finally and incorporating space for my trees and future trees. I want to cut down on all the trees I have to just have a few really good trees with potential. I have a small yard so I need to keep things light. Also I think if I just have a few trees to focus...

    Freeze and maples

so here in sunny southeast pa the temperature has been a balmy 15 degrees average. I have my Japanese maples outdoors in pots gathered together in a wooden box filled in with mulch but not completely covered. Any thoughts on their survival? I’ve used this method for two years so far and I’ve...

    Sangu Kaku Layer

Anyone ever successfully layer a sangu kaku? If so what technique did you use? I have a grafted one in my landscape and I want one with its own roots to work on. I've had three air layers fail in as many years. I've successfully layered other palmatums w the same technique. Is there something...

    Just a few maples

Sango Kaku and Nishiki Gawas were air layered from a mother tree. Tridents were started as 1 yr old seedlings. Ive tried for the last three years to layer a sangu kaku. I had given up. I thought they were one of the varieties that didn't take well. What method steps and materials did you use?

Visiting New Orleans in a month. I always like to stop in the local bonsai shops to see what's going on. Anyone have any suggestions for locations in New Orleans? Thanks

    It's still only 30 degrees

No I don't. And now I'm faced w the same dilemma 20 degrees tonight. I brought everything in tonight back out tomorrow. I'm watching all the leaves on my biggest JM slowly shrivel up. I have a bad feeling it's toast. It was far from a finished tree but the trunk size alone gave me high hopes for...

    It's still only 30 degrees

Is anybody else dealing with fully leafed out trees in freezing weather. My maple is really starting to look unhealthy and I'm not sure what to do. I've essentially been keeping it indoors 95% of the time because the weather has yet to rise above 35. I don't think it's going to make it. The...
