Sergio, in your experience when is the latest you perform partial and/or full defoliation? Do you have specific aftercare for japanese maples or trident maples based on the timing and type of defoliation?
forgive me but i realize this post is 20 pages long and i may have missed it. What medium are you using to put cuttings in? Straight perlite? Or is there sphagnum in there as well?
Thanks
I have already applied copper and Daconil. My needles are not "mottled" in appearance as are yours. Mine are mainly yellowing from the tips toward the base and a uniform yellow. Yours to me does appear to be more fungal in nature. The little bugs Vance is referring to most likely either...
I have had similar issues to you with our extremely humid weather in late spring and summer. What dilution rate do you use for your Daconil? Do you use the pre-formulated spray or the concentrate and mix on your own.
It depends on the weather but during spring usually every 2-3 days and then during the summer daily. I've been trying the chopstick again and to be honest it stays wet a long time. I originally posted on Friday and then at advice of those saying might be too wet, went back to my ole...
yes, soil was sifted to eliminate fines. Soil size ranges from 3/16" to 1/4". I also removed top inch or so of soil and replaced in fall after done fertilizing with organics last year.
interesting on the nitrogen blockade. I have been fertilizing rather heavily with Biogold (2 locations ~1.5 Tablespoon in each location at 4 week intervals. Same for my other Scots. I'm assuming watering is the issue or some sort of root issue. Going to really monitor the watering on this...
I've used the chopstick method in the past but don't find it very reliable. Must be my brand of chopstick? 🤷♂️ I do usually dig about an inch or two down to see if the soil is moist or drying out. I only water when looks like it's starting to dry out. I think these are sensitive to...
I'm struggling to keep this Scots pine healthy. My issue for the past 3 years is that the previous years needles continue to turn yellow (tip first) and drop off. This makes it extremely leggy and difficult to use any back buds. I originally thought that my soil mix was not draining properly...
