    cow pasture TX cedar elm

Collected several years ago. Was originally a 5 clump tree but lost some of it as it was bare-rooted and put on a plane. I am leaning towards the front in pic below so the massive forked branch is minimized. It feels too heavy sometimes but then it has nice bark and gives the tree mass. I need...

My cedrus seems dying after repotting

Cedars can drop all their needles and recover but I've only seen that happen with healthy roots that just got too dry. I try to remove fewer roots at once with cedars and have found the best time in my climate is very early spring. For me in the PNW thats about first couple weeks of March.

    Pacific silver fir..I think

One of my new native favorites. They seem to enjoy abuse. Found this one growing in a lava rock crevice a couple years ago. Have done a little minor work to let it recoop but its now getting shaggy.

    Blue atlas cedar questions/progression

Cedars are one of my favorites. I repot in late Feb in PNW as soon as buds start swelling. To get some density, if you pull all the old needles when the new shoots extend it will help with back-budding. I wire in spring/summer but mostly clip and grow and get pretty good back budding that way...

    BLUE ATLAS CEDAR

Hello. I've got blue atlas as well as cedar of lebanon. Located in Washougal so maybe not too far for you. They are about 3- 4' tall some maybe 1" -1.25" thick. Could send you some pics. Have quite a few to pick from. All grown from seedlings no grafts.

Ok. Great to know thanks! The elms at my parents place in TX where mine were collected, started leafing out months ago.

Cedar elms not budding yet in PNW?

I've got a couple cedar elms I collected in TX several years ago that had been doing very well here to my surprise. They held leaves on until almost the 3rd week of December this year and then we got about three weeks of freezing rain around Feb though the temps weren't much below freezing...

    Northwest Natives Care?

Hello. I've collected an assortment of Mt. Hemlock, Sub-alpine fir, and Engelmann spruce over the last few years that all have been allowed to sit untouched and recover for a minimum two years. My hemlocks and Engelmanns have pushed new growth each year but my sub-alpine firs only had new growth...

    Another spruce

Maybe its something with this partiuclar species? I've got a few large ones collected in Spring 2014 in the Cascades near me. They put out lots of new growth that first summer after collecting and then this past summer nothing. Their color still looks good and they've not dropped any needles...

Winged Elm may be in distress?

I've seen some of these at my parent's place in North Texas with semi-green leaves still holding on in February!

Winged Elm may be in distress?

Mine are just starting to turn yellow. Got just one or two yellow leaves now. Took this pic last week. I wouldn't worry, these are just about the toughest trees you can find. I'm sure yours will be just fine. This one went yellow a bit earlier last year from me missing a few days of watering in...

    -Northwesterners- Alpine firs budding yet?

Thanks all. Anyone seen these flush out after collection and die the following year? I thought the new growth was a sure sign they were doing well.

    -Northwesterners- Alpine firs budding yet?

Strange. My lasiocarpas have not flushed, but my 2015 collected Mtn Hemlock had new growth start about 3-4 weeks ago. I've not wanted to disturb them yet to check for roots as there weren't many when they were collected. One of the 3 grew quite a bit last summer after ti was collected, and all...

    -Northwesterners- Alpine firs budding yet?

Dug a few of these last spring around late April and they grew well through summer. Now, I've got a couple of Noble firs that have put out new growth, but none of my alpines have started yet. Just wondering if anyone else has new growth since all my other species of trees are well into the...
