    Acer palmatum "Ishigami"

I can only say that there will be better days...that your relationships past, present and future are what have and will make life meaningful. Please reach out to someone and live to be "tree like"...strong and capable of withering the storm...deeply rooted and intimately styled by the elements...

    Old Boxwoods

Update... I've been uncomfortable with the large rear trunk of this tree. It's quite straight with no taper...it's not that noticeable from the front but an eyesore from the rear. I'm looking for a strong radial presentation with taper in the long run...aren't we all :) Today's chop will need...

    Little John Dwarf (Callistemon)...help

Update: Well, sometimes near death moments in life bring a fresh new perspective and joy. My little Bottle Brush made it afterall and decided to bud out lower on the trunk. I've always wanted a shorter more powerful tree with this one so I reduced the long awkward upper trunk by over half...on...

Is bonsai art? - inspired by BVF

Saw this Bonsai on the Valvanis blog. The dead wood sculpting on this tree is magnificent. I see/feel art here.

The eye of that horse is extraordinary. The whole piece is incredible but that eye is literally speaking to me, I can't stop staring at it...mesmerizing

I get it and no need to be sorry...I appreciate your experience and honesty (even when its not what I want to hear). Until the tree gives up I certainly won't. Looks like time will have to tell.

Thank you @osoyoung...and everyone on this thread for their insight and time...I'm humbled If the tree goes I will provide an autopsy (on this thread)...it is the least I can do in return for the support and suggestions y'all have provided BUT I'm planning to develop a nicely tapered shohin...

100% inorganic, very open I've had the tree for 3 winters. The first 2 were normal and I only watered about every 3rd day. This winter was wild. Multiple 80 degree spurts in Dec, Jan and Feb. I found myself watering almost as if it were summer trying to keep up. I had a Hinoki give up on me as...

I appreciate your detailed response...thank you. If it isn't reducing the likelihood of survival to keep the tree intact I have no problem leaving it alone while it strengthens. Don't mind slipping it into a "nursing" pot either.

Living branch emerged from dormancy about 15 days ago. I noticed then that we were in trouble. Started scratching all around and not getting much green...held out hope for the last few weeks but the dormant buds are all dry and the branches are beginning to wrinkle. This weird winter got...
