Rather than posting in the section "Grafting, layering & propogating", I thought it more appropriate to post this here. (à propos -by the way : "propogating"?... :p)

A friend gave me a cutting of what he called Zelkova 'Nire'. Ah ah ah!
'Nire' is Japanese for "Elm". It's just an Ulmus parvifolia, perhaps a subspecies one could call "cork-bark", whatever. I suspect it's just the plain species.

Anyway, I took some cuttings in mid-June 2012, and put them in a mix with a lot of fine sand. I repotted them in August the same year:

Two of these in 2016:

I'm planning to take bigger ones later this year. And of course, when planted in the ground, they develop much, much faster...

Nice development, Alain. Concerning ID and dendrology of species from "Elm family" it's always funny. Here are some of my...that was labeled.

Your style is certainly your own AlainK.

And I like it!

Thanks Sorce ;)

@ Peter:
You're right: just looking at this page from Wikipedia makes you dizzy, and it's probably not the most extensive list of synonyms opr misnamed Ulmus:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Elm_synonyms_and_accepted_names

(but Zelkova 'Nire' is definitely, totally wrong, and shouldn't be used)

I agree, spent much time searching info, found some IBC thread that led nowhere...
