Question about pinus sylvestris shoot trimming

What is your concern behind this question?

Just wasn't sure how to handle an extending candle with buds at the end of it.
I think that's just a sign of vigor. Makes sense, since its the longest candle on the tree ...and its the highest candle on the tree. You definitely can prune that candle at the appropriate time, though I'd probably leave JUST a few more pairs of needles than your red line indicates. That said, I think you'd be fine at your line because of how vigorous its growing.

when they are at the stage shown. I am watching the plant, not the calendar.
For me this thread was very helpful thanks to this advice,

Are there any tell tale signs to look out for to signal its time to pinch?

You know like bud swelling for repot

And does this differ for double flush pines like JBP

I prefer to pinch the candles in half before the needles start to extend on the candle, when it still kinda looks like a corn on the cob.
Repotting is no different for 2 flush pines, in the spring as buds tend to swell

@ paradox DOH! I was not very clear there sorry!

I meant the pinch timing haha!

Thank you though I agree it makes much more sense to follow the tree than the calendar this is very helpful

What Paradox said, before the needles start to peel away from the shoot, but I do try to wait until the shoot has stopped extending
so you can get them pinched to the desired length.
